Dear Senator,

As a well-trained clinical mental health counselor, I am writing this letter to spearhead the needs of individuals living with disability. According to the American counseling association, a counselor in mental health has a vast number of standards that must be followed. One of the standards is to ensure equal opportunities for individuals in the community to come up with the necessary learning-related outcome, such as perseverance and understanding of learning as part of success in career building (Sue, 2016). I believe that individuals who have disabilities also have the capacity towards having equality at work and the learning institutions so that there is strong ethics in the working areas.

I am approaching the issue of equality in individuals with living disabilities as a clinical mental counselor who has a vast understanding of the situation that hits the underprivileged in society. In most cases, these individuals’ rights are undermined; hence they end up at the poverty line, one of the significant factors that the legislators must consider when enacting laws.

Counselors have the ethical responsibility to provide advocacy for the individuals living with disability in society. This is aimed at eliminating the barriers of this population. This can be spearheaded by challenging the traditional assumptions put on counseling. As a counselor, it is vital to identify that client problems can accrue due to the environment. Counselors hence are tasked to be the chief agents, offer support and act as advisory personnel who will champion the promotion of social justice at the micro and macro levels. I am tasked to be alert to the issues of oppression and discrimination toward people with living disabilities (American Counseling Association, 2014). This depicts that I am entitled to oversee the disability issues and act as an advocate in reducing the discrimination levels against people living with disabilities.

The population that needs this legislative attention are those people living with disability. They suffer from inequality issues in the workplace. The risks faced by this population entailed unhappiness and decreased life enjoyment which goes hand in hand with family conflicts. There are high chances that this population has relationship difficulties that can be tied to social isolation in the community as well as workplace discrimination (Lee, 2018). Additionally, there are risks related to taking drugs, such as tobacco, missing school, and a widened gap in financial and legal problems. This shows that this population of people living with disabilities is far living beyond poverty with a rise in homelessness.

These risks endanger or affect individuals because they cannot perform their work well. This is because they feel the community has disowned them, leaving them out of decisive moments. In the long run, there can be extreme emotions and behavioral and physical problems brought by unhappiness and conflicts.

These risks warrant legislative protection because living with disability, especially a mental disability, is an issue that requires instant help, unlike other illnesses. More so, this unaddressed living disability will negatively influence society, accompanied by homelessness, unemployment, and the rise in poverty. Society can see a reduced safety and economic plan reduction (Purtle et al., 2020). As a result, legislation is required because this can hamper local businesses’ production, impede children’s success in schools, and bring along community disruption.

Therapeutic interventions grounded in best practices promote help-seeking by individuals in several ways. First, a therapeutic intervention passed by the government can aid in ensuring that there is available medication for people living with disability; hence they might not feel disturbed in getting these therapies. For instance, in the case of mental health, the therapeutic intervention entails legislation that oversees cognitive-behavioral relaxation, which is accompanied by social skills training. This is also a way in which social support, acceptance, and commitment will enhance resilience training and programs aimed at forgiving (Sue and sue, 2016).

The interventions are relevant to the population being talked about because it restores a figure of self-worthiness in the community for this population. Such interventions help oversee those cases of disability are minimized in the community.

The specific policy action is to enact a law requiring equal opportunity for those living with disability. This entails equal opportunities in all sectors, including the workplace, school, and hospital. Also, there is a need to enact legislation that will spearhead good care for the disabled population in society (Lee, 2018).

The policy and legislation are best for this population as they will spearhead a working nation based on equality. More so, there will be a reduction in elements such as poverty, homelessness, relationship problems, and conflicts in this population. The benefits are worth time and resources as they will ensure that this population moves back to the community. Besides, it will foresee an active community that will improve the economy.

The risks of not taking the policy of action entail a high mortality rate, a high rate of conflict, and an increased rate of poverty. This shows that a rise in conflicts in the community will bring along inequality after that.

Based on argumentative collaboration between counselors and governmental institutions, counseling is a mission-based profession; hence its primary purpose is to serve clients. This depicts that counselors must follow the ethics codes and professional competencies when advocating rights for their clients. Based on the American counselor’s association, there is always an employed team of governmental affairs and public policy staff that are linked to the federal and local government who advocate for legislative fonts and support professionals so that there is the elimination of issues such as those discussed above (American Counseling Association, 2014).

Advocating For The Nursing Role In Program Design And Implementation Sample Assignment

Stress management classes and nutrition are current healthcare programs within my line of practice. This program aims to bring and motivate healthy living among vulnerable people in society who are struggling with this issue. It aims to be a solution for those who need this type of health program service help but is unaware of this need for some reason. The program is aimed to incur a fairly higher cost, which cannot yet be determined until the program gains at least 200 people (Abe et al.,2019). The projected outcome is that most people will join the program after seeing the level of help it will have provided for those who were or are already there.

Our target population for this health care program is the old aged people who are above the age of 65years. Another population that can be considered in this program is the people living with different kinds of disabilities. These two are the chosen beneficiaries as the target population for our current healthcare program because they are the most vulnerable people in the society we currently live in. Being the most vulnerable population, they need to be the first people to be educated and assisted on the issues of neutrino and stress management. Most older people are attacked with different national problems and stress after they get to 65 years and above. This is sometimes caused by some of the lifestyles they are subjected to; some are abandoned by their families and left a lot in these vulnerable times (Abe et al.,2019). Some live with the stress and fear of death now that they are old, and they feel prone to any disease that may make them encounter death.

In most cases, they are neglected by their family members who are to take care of their needs. If no one rises to help this population, we might as well lose them faster than we think. People under 65 years suffering from different types of disabilities undergo similar problems where they are unable to work and cater for their medical bills. Such people require a lot of medical attention, and if enough is not done to help them, they risk losing their lives.

To provide sufficient input for the design of this health program, a nurse has several responsibilities. One of them is the promotion of health. In providing educational services related to stress management and good nutrition, the nurse has a role to promote the health of individuals over the age of 65years as well as those suffering from disabilities (Hallmark et al., 2021). An example of this health promotion practice they carry out is providing them with advice on the things to avoid in terms of what they eat and what they think would bring healthcare damage to them. Another role is preventing illness from attacking people under this medical program (Abe et al.,2019). This can be done by, for example, giving people vaccines that prevent them from attacks of a certain disease that would harm them severely if they acquire it. Another role is caring for the ill and disabled people and those about to die. This role is very important in this type of medical program as it involves saving many lives, which is the main goal of the Medicare health program. It is done in several ways example is by a nurse examining a patient frequently to ensure that their health is well taken care of and they are not exposed to any health hazards or danger.

As an advocate for my target population, which is the old aged people thus above the age of 65, one of my major roles is to ensure that the services for this healthcare program are delivered effectively and efficiently to patients. My work is to ensure that the services are delivered equally and efficiently to old aged people. An improvement can be made by ensuring that more attention and care is given to them, including the disabled population, to ensure they are well sorted. Extra care can be given by going the extra mile and visiting them in their homes to know how they are doing and the environments they live in. This would help assess whether these environments are fit or conducive enough for their health.

In implementing healthcare programs, the nurse plays very vital and key roles in ensuring that everything is done as it should be. Nurses incorporate the healthcare programs into their daily clinical routines to ensure they provide quality and more attentive service to individuals. The duties and roles of a nurse vary based on the design and implementation of what they do and the services they give in accordance with what needs to be done. A nurse’s duty in healthcare design is to propose the most efficient and effective ideas that would help ensure that the patients’ needs are met accordingly (Holland & Watson, 2021). The nurse must ensure that the proposed idea is something that can work well with the patients in question to provide the right solutions to them. In the implementation of healthcare, the role of a nurse is to incorporate the proposed healthcare design into a workable clinical program that would suit the needs of the patients (Holland & Watson, 2021). This program must meet all the needs of the patients and ensure that they are well taken care of and catered for accordingly. An example of how nurses carry out this duty is how they handle issues at a clinical level to help the patients.

To implement healthcare program, the main and most important members that are needed to implement a certain program are nurses. Nurses are the most important people in the implementation of any healthcare program, in my opinion. Without nurses, most healthcare programs cannot be implemented as required. Nurses are the platforms and the primary foundation for the implementation and operations of clinical activities. Nurses are equipped with the knowledge and the ability to bring solutions to healthcare issues on a clinical level. At the same time, they are the ones with the closest touch with different patients from different parts of the world, allowing them to bring the proper implementations and solutions to patients suffering from different healthcare issues.

Introduction

Henry Louis Gates Jr. authored and produced a six-part documentary drama titled African Americans: Many Rivers to Cross. As of the autumn of 2013, it was shown on PBS in its entirety, starting with episode 1. Gates and scholar Donald Yacovone collaborated on a supplementary volume to the project, The African Americans: Many Rivers to Cross (SmileyBooks, 2013). In January 2014, a two-disc package of the show was made available (Jr & Yacovone, 2013). An account of the African-American history from slavery until Barack Obama’s election and subsequent inauguration is included in The African Americans: Many Rivers to Cross. African Americans: Many Rivers to Cross, as per its official website, examines how African Americans have forged their own identity in the face of insurmountable adversity through the development of a wide range of cultural organizations, political tactics, and social as well as religious viewpoints. While America is now governed by a black leader but is still severely segregated by color, the series begins with slavery’s roots in Africa and proceeds across five centuries full of extraordinary historical occurrences. This paper will examine episode two and episode one of this documentary.

Episode One

From this chapter, we get to know what slavery is and how it started. Enslaved people are often compelled to do some kind of task, and their location or place of residence is set by their enslavers. Several Africans, both freed and in slavery, helped create and sustain colonies in North America as well as the New World. From this episode, we get to understand the Trans-Atlantic trade and the ordeal that the slave individuals suffered. This was the largest long-distance involuntary movement of persons in the globe. Central and west Africa, Western Europe, and the Americas were all part of a broader trading network. Throughout the lengthy overland travels from the interior to the shore, numerous captives perished. The enslaved persons who remained were subsequently imprisoned in constructed slave castles by European traffickers.

The Age of Slavery depicts how black people’s lives altered radically following the American Revolution. Such times were a period of immense potential for liberated black individuals in locations like Philadelphia Slavery’s impact on the livelihoods of African-Americans altered considerably after the American Revolution. However, for numerous African Americans, it was a historical low point. Slavery’s fast expansion into new territory was supported by the cotton business, and the Second Middle Passage moved blacks from the upwards regions of the Southern States to the Deep South (Jr & Yacovone, 2013). Resistance grew in tandem with the spread of slavery. Through personal initiatives and communal rebellions, blacks demonstrated their dedication to weakening and finally abolishing slavery in each section of the nation as witnessed in this episode. Slavery was abolished in the United States thanks to the efforts of African Americans, from individual protests to huge uprisings. Each and each state in the United States saw a variety of actions taken by African Americans to weaken and eventually abolish slavery. People like Harriet Tubman, Richard Allen, and Frederick Douglass were instrumental in bringing the problem of black slaves to the spotlight of American politics, assisting in building the momentum which would ultimately lead to the Civil War.

This episode also highlights an important factor that facilitated slavery during this period, the cotton gin. With the land previously utilized to grow tobacco almost depleted during the time, the South suffered an economic catastrophe, which subsequently threatened the future of American slavery. That of Nat Turner in Virginia around 1831 frightened enslavers more than any other rebellion. Prior to being overpowered by local whites and state militia troops, Turner’s party, which finally numbered roughly more than 70 Black men, had massacred several whites. Enslaved individuals have revolted in practically every society where slavery is today or has been practiced in the recent past. The oppressed population’s longing for liberation and the fantasy of a victorious insurrection was typically the focus of music, art, and culture.

This episode also highlights the importance of civil war. Slavery underwent significant changes as a result of the American Revolution. Many slaves gained their freedom during the American Revolution by participating on opposing sides of the conflict. A remarkable percentage of the blacks were manumitted as a consequence of the Revolution, whereas many more were liberated by fleeing. The residents and leaders of Northern and Southern regions had remained at odds for more than a century regarding the problems that eventually culminated in the civil war: economic objectives, cultural norms, the national government’s jurisdiction over the territories, and, most crucially, the enslavement of the black society. The war’s conclusion protected the United States as a unified nation and ended slavery, which had divided the country from its founding. However, such wins had certain drawbacks, including the loss of numerous lives.

Conclusion

Many rivers to cross is a very nice drama play. It makes us learn the terrible ordeal that Africans underwent before they became free individuals in the U.S. However, racism is an issue that still persists in the modern-day period. It is not long since we saw the cruel death of George Burton. His cruel death brings to life the terrible sufferings of his ancestors in the American land. For those who witnessed this unfortunate period of individuals who have lost their loved ones because of racial abuse, this drama can leave a bad taste in the mouth. But there is hope; we hope that one day America will be free of racism and people can meet their American dream. They can enjoy their full freedom in the land of plenty.
