The experiment performed on Charlie Gordon is not an ethical experiment because Charlie, in light of the text did not fully understand the whole package about he experiment such as the consequences and was not given a consultant to explain to him.

But, from what we know, Charlie is given little or only an obiective View of the experiment. Acertain question that must be raised about the concept of full information. is whether Doctor Strauss and Doctor Nemur did actually have the full background information to give to Charlie. This neurological experiment was first performed on Algeron. but for some reason, they did not do any extensive trials on the animals and quickly tried it on Charlie. Therefore, they are putting a life at risk, then how can it be still called an ethical experiment? Since the conductors themselves do not have the full background information, thus, they are unable to pass this onto their patients. Hence, a principle of informed consent has not been put into practice.

Therefore, it can be said that this is not an ethical experiment a right to full information is free Withdrawal at any time. But to ponder deeply about his matter, Charlie did not have a chance to withdraw from eh research. His immaturity can be seen at the end of the story, where he chooses to evade this trouble and everyone instead of facing them, from eh text, we know that Charlie‘s IQ is 68 which classmes him as a moron.

In regards to Charlie Gordon‘s health, there are possible health damages such as progressive amnesia, impaired motor ability, and co ordination etc, and damages which have already been inflicted including loss of motivation, plunge in self esteem, memory loss and many more. How can you go through life by choosing marriage over education? Being a poor. Latina adolescent who longs for a room of her own and a house of which she can be proud of? Sometimes when you go through life there will be time you face struggles and wouldn‘t know how to get through it. As her being a woman she finds her way through life without being married and take 5 education to heart. To being with, education is the key to life, when you go through you will need to learn things. And for Esperanza that’s what she chose to do in life instead of staying in the house running around trying to prove for her family. Just like her mother she. dropped out of school took take care of her and her family. Now she sees in her eyes why, should she stop what she going for to settle down and have a family. Having a family can slow you down a lot in life.

For example “When the kids are asleep after she’d them their pancake dinner. she writes poems on little pieces of paper that she folds over and over and holds in her hand a long time, little pieces of paper that smell like a dime”. (Cisneros) Therefore, I feel like in the chapter Minerva is probably very excellent at writing poems but, I think that the only way for her to write poems is her only way out in her head. She can’t leave physically but mentally she can. If she didn’t get married and have kids should would be a great poet but, she torn between her marriage and getting out. The only way is to leave with her children but, keeps falling into the husband trap. Also. she shouldn’t want her girls to go through the pain and hurt her taking.

She should want them to have a great education then, when the time IS right off and get married to the right man and not get abused like she has. Secondly, as you grow up in life there are times your parents won’t have, the money to give you nice things like the other children. Sometimes when you do see your parents struggle in life you keep begging knowing they can‘t give it to you, really puts pressure on them because, they know you might not feel loved, So for Esperanza being a poor Latina and not being able to have her room as a girl or them having a new house makes her feel sad. For example, ” It’s me- Mama said,“ I open up and she‘s there with bags and big boxes, the new clothes and , yes she‘s got the socks and a new slip with a little rose and pink-and-white striped dress” Where’s the shoes she asked?” (Cisneros) Now, she’s wonder where the shoes are like all girls.

They are in love with shoes right? Well for Esperanza she is. I understand where she‘s coming she would rather have worn her nice old dress but have a new pair of shoes. I would want the same thing but. she also has to look at it her mom only had enough for the new things. On the hand, her mama was thinking she wants her look very nice. Another example, there are some people out there who really can’t afford all the nice things she has, if she really looks at it that way. She wouldn’t have anything to complain about. I have learned that myself, when l was just a spoiled brat but, as soon as I grew up I understood even, though they want to please us every time we ask for the most expensive things knowing they can’t afford it. Thirdly. Esperanza longs for her to have her own room. If she thinks she’s poor why. would she want to have her own room when she has to share with her sisters?

Now she‘s lucky she has somewhere to stay but, I guess having your own room is a good thing since you get to have your own space. Ana for you to get away from everything and everyone. Plus she probably wants her own room so that she can’t focus more on her school work and write. So she can have some peace and quiet. Once, she gets her own place she wouldn‘t have to worry about all that like she states in the chapter “A House Of my Own”. So until then she needs. to live with it and make her way around the struggle she‘s going through. I really can’t understand what‘s she gomg through because, lam the only girl in my household but, know knowing you have to share with your sisters sucks. I witness an experience with that situation with my own cousins. They hate not having their own space either one is messy or goes through each other‘s things.

Esperanza has to realize there can be some positive ways in sharing a room. instead of looking at her life in a negative way. To conclude, how can you go through life by choosing marriage over education? Being a poor, Latina adolescent who longs for a room of her own and a house of which she can be proud of? Sometimes when you go through life there will be time you face struggles and wouldn’t know how to get through it. As her being a women she finds her way through life without being married and take s education to the heart. So that answers my question, it can be a struggle going through life choosing marriage over education, but you have to do what fits you and your life. Not what your mother think or father because, you are the one who has to face all the trouble snot them. An for to say she poor she‘s far from it. She has roof over head and has somewhere to sleep and eat other people don’t so, she pretty lucky just most of us out here in the world.

For most people, the American Dream depends on where and how they currently live. The term “American Dream” is loosely defined as the acquisition of wealth, fast cars, a beautiful home in a high-scale neighborhood, power, fame, and a loving, supportive, and altogether perfect family However, the American Dream can be more accurately defined as the pursuit of a better life, oftentimes a higher status is the dream that each individual creates for their future, For Sandra Cisneros’ narrator in “The Hottse on Mango Street,” the American Dream rested in a house Unlike many people today who are obsessed with their dreams of owning notjust one house, but huge properties and businesses , Cisneros portrays her character to be in the pursuit of a singular dream: to own a house that was solely her and her family’s.

The author portrays the narrator and her family building their own American Dream, creating their future house in their imaginations, envisioning a “house [that] would be white with trees around it, a great big yard and grass growing without a fence”, Their American Dream consists of merely a house that will belong solely to the narrator and her family, their dream is in a home that fits their family and their family’s needs, The American Dream that the narrator’s family longs for is not the pursuit of fame or fortune, they simply want a house to call home. More than that, they seek a house that would be large enough for the narrator’s growing family, one that had ”at least three washrooms so when we took a bath we wouldn’t have to tell everybody”, a house that would fit the budding family that they were.

The narrator‘s family’s dream consists of a house that they can call home, a house that reflects their family‘s size. However, the author infers that this house is much more than simply a home better suited to the needs of the narrator and her family. The house that the narrator and her family seek goes beyond simply the aspect of being able to have a roof over their head that they call their own. For the narrator’s family, it represented stability. To have a house of their own meant that they would no longer have to move when their family became too large for an apartment, or when circumstances within the apartment demanded that they leave. When talking about her life as it moved from house to house, the narrator states that “they always told us that one day we would move into a house, a real house that would be ours for always so we wouldn‘t have to move each year”.

The stability that ownng a house could bring to the narrator’s family was truly what they sought, not simply any other house, but a house that would be theirs and theirs alone, with no fear of when or where they would move next, This is the hope that they hold onto in the midst of their chaotic lives. It is the dream that they grasp when they are occupying a house that is less than what they have always dreamed Cisneros writes that “we didn’t always live on Mango Street Before that we lived on Loomis on the third floor, and before that we lived on Keelerrn what I remember most is moving a lot”. Throughout all of the hardships and suffering that the protagonist’s family has gone through, the dream of the house they wish to one day own keeps them hopeful. Their dream becomes a constant, the only constant in a world that is ever changing and when houses are just a place to rest their heads at night, never inhabited long enough to become a home.

The house represents the stability that the narrator and her family would experience in having a house that they owned, never having to move again. The author also portrays that this house would represent the narrator’s parent’s ability to care for their children Growing up in what the author infers to be a somewhat underprivileged financial situation, the beautiful house that the narrator’s family dreams of becomes a symbol of the family’s wealth. In her story, Cisneros addresses the issue of what this dream of a house represents when compared to the setting in which they are already in From the details given, the reader is able to infer that the narrator‘s parents were not significantly wealthy and lived in a part of town that reflected that status, The narrator states that the moment she first knew she had to own a real house was when she was met by disbelief that she lived in an apartment in which she and her family were on “the third floor, the paint peeling, wooden bars Papa had nailed on the windows so we wouldn’t fall out“.

This detail supports the author‘s inference that the narrator’s family lived in a part of town that was not well-to-do, instead displaying the poverty that it‘s occupants experienced. At this point, the narrator is able to portray how it was not necessarily the house that she sought, but the picture that it reflected. This house, the one that her and her family dream of, represents far more than simply a place to rest their heads. It is a place that reflects the quality of their life, of their family. The narrator was able to envision this dream house when she was met with the nun’s disbelief, because it made her “feel like nothing”, like her house was not good enough and that therefore she was not good enough. The house that the narrator and her family dream of is their American Dream, because to them it represents a higher status, the parent’s ability to care for their children adequately.

The house that they dream of would provide them with a picture that reflected who they wanted to be, In America today, the status of others is portrayed by what they do, but more commonly by where they live The narrator’s family wanted a house that would portray them better than the various apartments they had occupied. They sought a house that would not be a symbol of poverty, but a symbol of care and the ability to provide The house was their American Dream because they needed a space in which they would fit, but it provided much more, it was a symbol of their wealth, a reflection of their status in society. In Sandra Cisneros’ short story “The House on Mango Street,” she depicts a family pursuing the American Dream. She goes beyond the boundaries of simply material possessions, and dives into the true reasons that her narrator’s family wanted a house, what it represented to the family.
