Self-concept is how a person has the knowledge of oneself. According to the Social Issues Reference(n. d. ), self concept is the accumulation of the knowledge about the self, such as beliefs regarding personality traits, physical characteristics, abilities, values, goals and roles. Self-concept is knowledge about how someone define themselves, either the similarity or the difference from others. It is a concept of how someone reflect themselves. Communication is one of the requirements in a life. Human are social creature, they are depend on each other helps.
Human communicate to fulfill their social needs. There are many kinds of how communication would like to be, it is mostly depends on the culture. Culture has variance that shaped the unique communication. Another factor is the living background which depicts the contrast difference between the social life level. In the movie of The Blind Side depicts how someone self-concept changed as the way of communicating changed goes. As a homeless kid and being move around through the foster houses, Michael Oher choose to be homeless rather than meet new family strange for him.
Being taken by the Family Services because of his drug-addicted mother makes him being a shy person. He become a quiet person with low self esteem, he had no courage to do anything. Except for his atletic talent. Everybody has the unpleasant impression about him because he shows the scary face with his huge size of body. Perception of others always selective and sometimes distorted. Michael perceive himself as a person with no value because he seems to be rarely communicate with people surround him. People scare like the girls in the park that runaway from the swinger after saw Michael.
Michael always assumed that nobody could make friends with him. Not until he meets SJ and SJ teach him to smile to everyone he mets. Impression management consists of strategic communication designed to influence other’s perception of an individual. Communicator creating a good impression by managing their manner and appearance in their engagement with people surrounding them. Grown up in the Hurt-Village when there are covered by the black people with bad manners that could be a threat. Being in a broken-home family, leads Michael to be a quiet guy and his attitude are not wild like the others.
Attached with the universal psychological influences, a cultural factor also affects perception. It comes when Michael Oher was admitted to the private Christian school because the first impression of the Coach Cotton who saw him playing basketball magnificently. He immediately encourages all of the board teacher to admit Michael Oher in the school. After take a look of his bad grades in previous school, all the teachers has bad first impression about Michael Oher band needs to consider about the admission in the school. Two or more people perceive the world in the different ways.
Talk about the teachers, their first impression is bad and tend to label Michael inaccurately because they have not seen him yet. First impression is not always accurate. When Michael walking on the way to school gym, Leigh Anne and Sean Tuohy found him and bring him back home. Leigh Anne making him a great favour and taking care of him. Leigh Anne buy him clothes, feed him, and give his own room. Leigh Anne being so empathy of Michael. When another gives him a bad impression on first, Leigh Anne trying to put different point view of seeing Michael.
Perception checking is a good tool for increasing the empathy. She experiences the feeling of Michael emotionally. Her concern about Michael makes her care for others. By being empathic, it is enable someone to treat others more kindly, not to straightly go to conclusion based on first impression that always inaccurate. It is a precious tool to increasing understanding of others and leads to the effective communication. Showing the emphatics means that trying to understand people’s life better.
Berger (1987) stated that empathy is ‘The capacity to know emotionally what another is experiencing from within the frame of reference of that other person, the capacity to sample the feelings of another or to put one’s self in another’s shoes’. Based on the test that Michael been through, it found that he has great protective instinct stand out from all instinct that resulted unpleasant. That can shows when he always trying to Leigh Anne and the Tuohy’s, when he block the airbag from SJ at the time accident happen.
The protective instinct might shaped by his usual to protect his real mother that has a medical problem. As he took away from his mother, he being around moved from foster homes to another foster homes. He always had the instinct to protect his mother. Another factor considered might be because he is all around everywhere homelessly, he always trying to protect himself. This self concept shaped by life background of Michael. As Michael always trying to protect people around him, can be seen by what he always saying “I have your back” means that he always shelters people surrounds him.
By realized that Michael has a great instinct, Leigh Anne dig deeply about himself and helps Michael to improve his potential to play the sport that is relating to the self defense. In the football match, Michael starts to play well and know the rules, but one of the personnel of opposite team keep teasing him and makes him less self esteem. He losses focus to play and gain no score for the team. He’s back to think that nobody could give him a value because of the teases he got. Not until Coach Botton blame the umpire for not being justice not to give the yellow card to the other team personnel that kicked Michael’s head.
Coach Botton said that he willing to do everything to protect Michael because of his value for the team. From that on, Michael realized that he is worth for the team and get back his self-esteem. Michael feels his presence is worthwhile since Coach Botton defends him. His self-esteem makes him shows his potential and play great on the next game. Karl Perera (2007) stated that ‘low self esteem means poor confidence and that also that also causes negative thoughts which means that person are likely to give up easily rather than face challenge’.
Self-esteem is one of the key about how someone do something potential in life. Miss Sue always encourages Michael to do better in the school lesson even though sometimes Michael always giving up on the work, Miss Sue trying to support him that he actually could do better, it Is just the way how to reach there. Remember that Miss Sue is a Democrat, which is continuously treat others just the way she treats herself. As a democrat person, Miss Sue gives Michael an opportunity to reach his potential. Though in final, Miss Sue succeed to lead Michael to get a good grades.
Being questioning on the matter of which university he should go to, Michael finally decides to go to the Ole Miss University because he realized that is the university where all of Tuohy’s, his family wanted to. He finds his self-concept that he got a family that always comfort him and being a part of his life. The family that helps him shaped his self esteem through the potential he has and gives himself a worthwhile life. He become a newly born person that are welcoming, full of courage, and always smile so people have no worries anymore to be friended with him.
Although a person born with some personality characteristics, the self concept is shaped by how a person communicate by others. Once the self concept determined, it help us to be a key of how someone behave and how others respond us. The way someone communicate with other affects how does the person’s self-concept would shaped. It is no matter where does the person come from, their self-concept would not be always the same. It depends on the way they engaged with people surround them. The more good communication is, the greater self-concept that could be invented.

Before Sunrise And Before Sunset Analysis
The films Before Sunrise and Before Sunset are said to represent the so-called slacker genre. Slackers are individuals in society who have no direction and no reasonable expectation or realistic goals in life. This term is mainly used with Generation X’ers (people born between 1961 and 1981) (Casto, “What’s A Slacker Movie? ”). Slacker movies are films that deal with the ordinary day-to-day life of these people. In Before Sunrise and Before Sunset the characters sense of wandering and the feel of aimlessness is what make them qualify as slacker films.
It is a different story telling, not the classical Hollywood story where boy meets girl, falls in love and lives happily ever after but a real story with perhaps no happy ending or no ending at all. The characters exemplify core traits of Generation X by the way they connect with each other through conversation and ideas rather than action, their uncertainty about their fate and how they can relate to the average audience. Before Sunrise is a film about an American guy Jesse (Ethan Hawke) and a French girl Celine (Julie Delpy) who are on a train headed for Paris.
They both get off in Vienna and spend the day there getting to know each other before Jesse’s return flight home to America. Celine and Jesse begin to wander around the historical city meeting many different and interesting people along the way; fortune tellers, street poets, gypsies, and a bartender (who actually gives them a free bottle of wine). They talk about parents, sex, religion, former relationships, music, death and reincarnation. The theme in this movie is really about all aspects of life.
In one scene where the couple is walking through the Cemetery of the Nameless in Simmering, “the theme of death is evoked when Jesse recalls a vision of his late grandmother [and] Celine confesses to thinking constantly about dying [… ]” (Speed 103). “The people buried in the cemetery have found anonymity in death; by learning to know and understand one another, Celine and Jesse experience and embrace life, suspending their own mortality” (Berardinelli, “Review: Before Sunrise”).
Every moment of their conversation is captured on film “in real time that is, having the events of the narrative develop in the actual time the film is shown” (Wartenberg, “Before Sunset | Philosophy Now”). The viewer is drawn to the film in a more realistic way compared to the Hollywood conventional fare in which the actual time is minimized through editing. Thus, the editing allows more emphasis to be put on what the characters are saying to each other, while connecting with one another and the audience more profoundly.
The sequel, Before Sunset was filmed nine years later in Paris where Jesse (Ethan Hawke) is on a promotion tour of his book This Time. As he is answering questions from the Journalists he spots Celine (Julie Delpy). He briefly answers the Journalists questions so he can quickly meet up with her. As they begin walking through Paris we are drawn to their conversation and the picturesque views of Paris life capturing every moment in real time.
Celine and Jesse have a lot to catch up on. They reach a coffee-shop, continue talking and tell him that she had attended New York University from 1996 to 1999. Jesse is surprised to hear this and tells Celine that just before his wedding day he thought he had seen her at a New York Deli. As they again begin to move throughout the city taking boat-rides and taxis, Jesse confesses to Celine that he wrote the book to record their meeting and time spent together in Vienna.
At the beginning of their conversation they both tell each other that they are fine and as time passes by they begin to feel the reconnection they had in Vienna and begin to disclose what their life has been really like during the last nine years. The difference is that nine years earlier, they were a twenty-something couple both single, which represented the Generation X, people who “grew up in the ‘me generation’ of the [1970s and] 1980s and now recognize that it was not all that it was cracked up to be” (Jochim, “Generation X defies definition”).
Nine years later, and in their thirties and both attached to other people, they realize that they are constrained by the choices they have made and that “getting older means no longer having the chance to realize ones potential through their free choice” (Wartenberg, “Before Sunset | Philosophy Now”). At the end of the film Before Sunset Celine and Jesse are in her apartment listening to music and she begins to dance reminding him about his flight. The camera turns to Jesse where he is seen twirling his wedding ring on his finger. As a viewer the twirling of the wedding ring is representing the uncertainty about his happiness in his marriage.
This situation is very much relatable to the audience as divorce and the struggle of marriage has become a common occurrence in today’s society. Both the films Before Sunrise and Before Sunset are about Celine’s and Jesse’s relationship and their mutual interest in conversation. They spend a lot of time talking about their feelings yet never sincerely act upon them. The films can relate to the audience because they actually address the issue of how difficult it is to find love and be certain of your feelings towards another person.
It also moves away from the easy-going cliche of ‘love at first sight’ seen mostly in Classical Hollywood romances. The complexity of the characters love for each other is seen when Jesse attempts to move on and marries someone else, because as a social norm that is what is expected of him. In the end it seems that Jesse is not as willing to leave Celine as he did in Vienna, maybe realizing that their destiny is their choice, one that they will have to make and not leave up to fate.

Doctor Vs Nurses: Equally Important In The Medical Industry
Both the Doctor and the Registered Nurse are typically considered equally important in the medical industry, with each providing complimentary services to patients. They have distinct duties based on their different educational backgrounds. The doctor focuses on providing opinions and diagnoses, while the nurse is responsible for executing the doctor’s proposed care plan for the patient.
The roles and responsibilities of a Registered Nurse and a Doctor differ between countries, but there may be some minor variations. This discussion will focus on the practices in the United States, (Russell, Swansburg & Richard 2006). While a Registered Nurse is generally seen as having less knowledge, they do not have a limited area of expertise like doctors do. Nurses are capable of excelling in any medical field. However, this overlapping of duties sometimes leads to conflicts between these two healthcare professionals.
The duties of Registered Nurses and Doctors have recently been the subject of contradictions and discussions. The General Medical Council of the United Kingdom, along with other regulating councils, has established a comparison of duties between Registered Nurses and Doctors. This serves as a blueprint for enhancing patient services. Both Registered Nurses and Doctors can be found in schools, private clinics, and all healthcare facilities. They both perform a wide range of responsibilities.
Both the Registered Nurse and Doctors have duties such as supervising junior nurses and interns, ensuring they perform necessary duties during their study. The Doctor and Registered Nurse assist interns with practical tests, patient diagnosis, and examination. Prioritizing patient care is important for both professions.
This is to ensure that physicians focus on the patient and provide maximum care, according to Kelly, Penz, and Norma. Patients should receive regular checkups from both physicians to ensure they have been attended to, including any emergency cases that need immediate attention (Kelly, Penz, Norma, Stewart, 2008). Both the doctor and registered nurse should respect the patient’s dignity and privacy. Since these physicians are authorized to conduct physical examinations on any part of the patient’s body, all human rights concerning dignity must be upheld.
Many Registered Nurses and Doctors in healthcare settings have faced accusations of sexual and emotional misconduct due to their submissive nature. It is crucial for patient autonomy that both the Registered Nurse and doctor work together. This entails collaborating to offer necessary medical assistance, such as conducting physical examinations and documenting health records.
It is essential for a Doctor or registered Nurse to provide a health record before administering any medical tests or treatment to a patient. This record serves as a reference for future use and allows other medical professionals to conduct comprehensive examinations. Health records play a critical role in analyzing patients’ health statistics and can be utilized by any Doctor or registered Nurse. If you have any concerns about your health, please seek advice from a Doctor or registered Nurse.
The General Medical Council of the UK states that Registered Nurses and Doctors share the responsibility of offering crucial advice on subjects like HIV/AIDS and Family planning services. It is suggested that these healthcare professionals should work together in campaigns to decrease the worldwide HIV/AIDS epidemic. Furthermore, the World Health Organization encourages both Doctors and registered Nurses to assist couples by providing guidance on family planning to prevent health problems and issues related to marriage, such as impotence and infertility.
The respect given to both Registered Nurses and Doctors is now equal. When a Doctor is unavailable, some patients feel comfortable with the medical examinations and prescriptions given by the Registered Nurse. This demonstrates that patients have confidence in the Registered Nurse and view them with the same respect and trust as a Doctor. The General Council of Medicine in the UK has statistics showing that Registered Nurses can provide high-quality medical services to patients just like a Doctor can.
The Doctor is responsible for listening to the patient’s words and concerns during medical consultations. This information is used to create the patient’s health record, which is then analyzed before treatment is provided. Registered Nurses and doctors often support patient advocacy and community programs. While not all Doctors may take part in these programs, they are still supported by the two physicians for reasons specific to their practice.
The community programs, including immunizations and awareness programs, are part of various activities. When health epidemics like Polio and measles occur, doctors offer technical health advice while registered nurses provide general information about the epidemics. Both registered nurses and doctors are responsible for updating their knowledge and professionalism. They need to revisit their colleges during their study or tenure to improve their skills and knowledge as medical practitioners.
It is recommended that doctors and nurses gain sufficient experience in their practice to prevent minor errors that could have major consequences for patients. It is the responsibility of doctors to prescribe medication to patients who have been evaluated by registered nurses during examinations. In cases of minor health issues, registered nurses can prescribe medication to patients after conducting the necessary laboratory tests to confirm the prescription.
There are a few instances where a Registered Nurse is unable to fulfill the responsibilities of a Doctor. This typically applies to Nurses who were educated under the old system. Health histories may contain sensitive data. As these records are created by either Doctors or Registered Nurses in the absence of Doctors, both medical professionals must maintain the utmost confidentiality of this information. Such conduct follows the ethical standards of medical practice.
The text underscores the significance of safeguarding privacy, asserting that sharing information should only occur when legally mandated. Disclosing personal details publicly can negatively impact a person’s marriage and standing in society. This notion is not limited to the UK and the US, as the medical profession acknowledges that Registered Nurses and Doctors should have equivalent duties due to staff shortages. Nonetheless, different nations may adopt diverse approaches to enforce this rule. Stress levels are also worth considering in this context.
Many Registered Nurses prefer to transition to different nursing departments, such as community programs, after working in a high-stress hospital setting for a prolonged period. This allows them to have more flexibility in their work. Similarly, both Doctors and Registered Nurses do not like serving a large number of patients for an extended duration and value having their own relaxation time. As the central figures in medical care, all essential responsibilities revolve around the duties of Doctors and Registered Nurses. Therefore, before receiving treatment, a patient must be attended to by either a Registered Nurse or a Doctor.
In order to ensure speedy recovery of patients, it is crucial to handle emergency cases with efficient equipment. However, the absence of such equipment for handling risky situations like emergencies presents an additional challenge. Fagin and Garelick highlight that doctors experience significant levels of stress when they are unsure about conducting medical diagnostics, tests, and administering antibiotics. Furthermore, registered nurses often feel stressed due to demands from their supervisors and doctors. This can lead to conflicts of interest that arise from the delegation of tasks.
When duties are delegated from other medical officers to Doctors and registered Nurses, it can be challenging for them to adjust to the new responsibilities (Fagin and Garelick 2004). Another source of stress occurs when a patient does not show signs of recovery despite long-term treatment by a doctor and registered nurse. Working in a motivating environment is preferable for individuals, as they thrive in situations where improvement is visible. It is unfortunate for patients to pass away under the care of registered Nurses and doctors.
The lack of staff among registered Nurses and Doctors is causing excessive workloads, leading to overworking. This heavy workload often compels Doctors and registered nurses to work long hours without breaks for meals or leisure. This level of fatigue can lead to neglecting ethical responsibilities, increasing stress levels. Moreover, there have been instances where patients disregard the instructions given by Doctors or Nurses, further impacting their treatment outcomes. For instance, certain medications like antibiotics should not be taken at specific times or with certain meals. Each employee has their own preferred schedule and available resources for work. Unfortunately, Doctors and Registered Nurses rarely get time off to spend with their families or participate in extracurricular activities. Both the registered nurse and doctor experience immense stress when making life-altering decisions. Their professional duties are governed by strict regulations that must be adhered to as failure to do so can result in severe consequences imposed by their employers.
The risk to health posed by the practice of medicine is high for both Doctors and Registered Nurses, and this adds even more stress. Many Nurses and Doctors do not have life insurance policies, and directly dealing with sick conditions puts their lives in danger. There is a challenge for healthcare administrators due to the transmission of communicable diseases and other contact-based illnesses. Additionally, most nurses and doctors do not opt for integrating or dominance approaches when resolving conflicts with their colleagues. This approach is less stressful compared to the avoidance approach, which is preferred by many.
The obliging situation comes along with many assumptions which are not realistically true. In a nut shell, the stress level of Registered Nurses and doctors is very high, and should be checked in order to ensure good quality services. It is a hard task for a registered Nurse or a Doctor to explain a difficult phenomenon to a patient. For instance, there are situations where a “blue baby” is born; such babies tend to have problems with their respiratory system and rarely do they survive. It becomes so hard for a doctor to explain such a situation to a parent.
Many patients expect to be cured quickly when they seek medical treatment. However, medical practice is based on the principle of probability. Doctors administer relevant treatments with the hope that the patient will recover. If this doesn’t happen, it can be very stressful for doctors and registered nurses. In some cases, the patients’ beneficiaries have even tried to sue the doctor because their illness did not heal despite the expenses involved.
Being a Medical doctor is extremely challenging, to the point where many people praise and applaud your work. However, this often leads to doctors forming relationships with other employees within the hospital. Unfortunately, this can cause stress and interfere with the tasks of both doctors and registered nurses. To minimize this stress and interference, it is strongly advised that doctors and registered nurses refrain from engaging in personal relationships with any hospital employees. Additionally, one way to reduce these levels of stress is to ensure that all individuals practicing medicine are adequately insured against any potential health risks.
The licensing board, in conjunction with the relevant authority, should develop defensive medicine to protect against communicable and other diseases. Doctors should create strategies for handling difficult and disruptive patients, and if necessary, they should be provided with adequate security. The licensing board should promote favorable working conditions for doctors and Registered Nurses, including offering leaves, competitive salaries, and most importantly, providing transportation facilities to all doctors and Registered Nurses.
