It is possible to prevent hospital-acquired infections, falls, the wrong type of blood being administered, the development of bedsores, and several surgical blunders. Because of the different treatments and medication needed to address these errors, the United States paid $19.5 billion in 2008 (Consumer Reports, 2013). If a patient falls, it’s impossible to prevent human mistakes, such as operating on the wrong leg or leaving surgical instruments in the patient. Hospitals and their employees are still held responsible for the errors that have been made. This cost should not be borne by the insurance company or the patient but rather by the hospital.

An issue that frequently arises in patients who have just undergone knee replacement surgery is trouble bearing weight on their left knee. Nothing more was done for the patient’s problem except administering an antibiotic. She should have been listened to more closely when she first arrived at the hospital, which would have led to the detection of her disease sooner. In the absence of surgery, she would have avoided the extended hospital stay and the lengthy postoperative care. Fortunately, if we’d known better, we could have prevented all of this. Something that should never have happened has resulted in tens of thousands of dollars in medical expenditures and agony and suffering. According to American Medical Association rules, additional treatments should be covered by the institutions that made a mistake because additional costs could have been avoided if the protocol had been followed correctly. Medical mistakes and illnesses are the last things patients want to deal with while in the hospital. It is possible to cut down on or eliminate the costs of medical errors by making healthcare providers more aware of regulations and procedures.

Errors must be eliminated, and the standard of care must be raised. Maintaining open lines of communication and creating an environment of accountability can help you attain this aim to ensure patient safety and improve overall quality. Reporting errors is critical (Rodziewicz et al., 2021). We can only figure out what went wrong if someone reports it. This allows us to learn from our mistakes and prevent them from happening again. Healthcare practitioners may be reluctant to disclose their mistakes out of fear of repercussions. If policies are in place, employees should report errors without fear of repercussion. Thus, a more significant number of people would come forward and help resolve safety concerns and bring about constructive alterations. Patients’ results would be better, and the number of errors would be reduced due to the new system. The blame-and-punishment culture inhibits employees from reporting difficulties in the workplace (Rodziewicz et al., 2021). If we do not do something about it, fewer doctors will be reporting, which means more patients are in danger.

It is essential to communicate appropriately to reduce errors and improve patient care. Medical malpractice may occur if there is a breakdown in communication between the treating physician and the patient. During the shift report, team members are updated on the progress of a patient’s therapy. Handoffs can have significant ramifications for care and safety if done incorrectly. Complete or erroneous information might lead to medication errors, wrong-site surgery, and even death. Handoff errors and repetition can be minimized by cutting down on the number of transfers that are not necessary to get the job done. By using the same procedure each time, shift reports may be uniformly given to staff (Friesen et al., 2008).

Healthcare quality can be improved by providing incentives that inspire and motivate healthcare providers. As a result of this, the best service providers will be rewarded. Healthcare providers may be frustrated that most hospitals have procedures in place that penalize mistakes while failing to recognize and celebrate successful outcomes. Appreciation goes a long way in a setting where employees are often stressed and exhausted. In most successful firms, workers are routinely recognized and rewarded for their efforts. When employees feel valued and cared for, they are more likely to give their all on the job. People who are happy in their jobs are more likely to stick around and do a better job over time. Caring for others will be difficult if you are not motivated by a sense of self-worth and worthiness.

Pay-for-performance (P4P) programs reward providers based on the quality of their health care services. Patients gain from caregivers being paid based on outcomes, as they are motivated to deliver great care or risk losing money. As a result, providers are held accountable for the quality of their work rather than just completing the customer’s request. This will allow the healthcare industry to increase patient safety and well-being (Abduljawad & Al-Assaf, 2011).

Market niches do not need to be new business ideas. They can be prevailing business ideas that are not operating as expected. The potential to increase productivity in the industry can serve as a market niche. After intensively researching for healthy nutrition recipes from the internet market, the present business is not meeting the needs of the customers as expected. The businesses are more concerned about profits such that they forget about customer satisfaction. The quality of food provided is also poor and unhealthy. Therefore, establishing a reliable health food portal business is a viable business idea, provided it will prioritize customer satisfaction, quality, and health. I have worked in the food business for ten years. Therefore, if I join the market, I will greatly improve human health through healthy nutrition. To ensure the success of my business, I have focused on competitive analysis, market research and analysis, market plan, financial plan and cash flow.

Competitive and Marketing research Analysis

The competitive analysis aimed to identify my competitors’ strengths and weaknesses within the industry. It analyzed strategic context to know the viable opportunities and threats. After the analysis, I came to the following conclusion:

  • The market was operating poorly, and therefore there was a high risk of a new player entering the market. Limited barriers and a low level of initial investment attracted many investors.
  • The market niche was promising to develop since the health food recipe market was less saturated with competitors. To be competitive, the new ventures needed to have a property that would give additional advantages to the customers.
  • The client portfolio had medium risks. Portal functionality was important for the customers as long as it was well-implemented.

To reduce the influence of these results, it was recommendable to:

  • Ensure the product is unique. The health eating portal will combine several sites, thus increasing its indispensability and functionality for the customers. The portal will also have new functionality, such as reworking a regular recipe into a healthy one to move it away from the other products that can replace it.

  • Focus on the audience for who the service is important. This was to ensure the new service increased customer awareness and loyalty. Target customers are expected to respond and react quickly to the product. The reaction and responses will boost the portal’s popularity and traffic and increase profits by attracting more advertising customers.
  • Combine several schedules for advertising campaigns to increase the number of visits on the portal.
  • Regular monitoring of the competitor’s proposals to learn customer needs in time, the advantages of other businesses, and bring new functionality to the business.
  • Establish a strong long-term relationship with the customers through effective communication, fix bugs, maintain good feedback, and provide quality products.

Market Plan

As stated earlier, the health nutrition market has viable business ideas and market niches. It is a promising market that is highly growing. Every year, more investors and companies are attracted in investing while more people are becoming concerned about the quality and health of the food they eat. Considering my business, it is new in the market. It has zero previous services and developed products. Therefore, the business is entering the market with new products, which do not know the product or the business. I used Porter’s model to ensure suitable and reliable market strategies (Porter, 1980). After the analysis carried out using Porter’s model, I concluded the market strategies for the health food portal:

  • To maintain fair prices for the products. All prices should be within the market average to ensure customers do not go to my competitors due to high prices or the business does not operate at a loss due to low prices.
  • Increase the uniqueness of the services and products sold by increasing the innovative properties of the portal.
  • Focusing on the target audience the most. Concentrating on the most interested and loyal customers.
  • Increasing the level of recognition and loyalty from the due by providing high-quality services and ensuring the customers’ needs and preferences are met to the core.
  • Establish a good image for the business. A good image will increase return clients and increase referrals. Customers always choose where their money’s value is valued and prioritized (Ansoff, 2007).
  • Ensuring regular advertisement campaigns to increase the popularity of the business and increase sales.
  • Establish a good long-term relationship with the customers by ensuring quality services, quality products, good and timely feedback, and effective communication.

After taking into account the competitive strategy, considering the competitive environment and the market specifics, I chose to concentrate on the market needs. Market strategies are not fully implemented in the current market. Therefore, the customers search for a product that I different from other products in the market and solve their problems. Therefore, I thought providing a unique product and focusing on the needs of the markets would satisfy the customers and serve as my competition strategy.

Financial Plan and Cash Flow

Forecasting incomes and expenses give a financial plan. It determines the business’s net profit, considering all expenses and incomes (Drake, 2018). While designing the financial plan of my business, I assumed that the average visits would increase from 0 to 400,000. I calculated the sales amount based on the estimated number, including additional, repeat, and direct sales. When calculating the income, I considered that only fifty percent would be received from a part of the sales since the portal cooperates with other companies like nutritionists. For the advertisement revenue, I assumed that the advertisers would increase from 0 to 5, with the number increasing during the holidays.

After analyzing the forecast, I concluded that the business would be in profits six months since its initiation. The profitability of the business was calculated as shown below.

Therefore,

The first-year profitability will be -0.07

Second-year will be 0.45

Third-year will be 0.56

The negative sign in the first year shows that the company will have negative profitability since it has to recover the initial cost incurred in the first years of operation. Profitability increases in the second and the subsequent years.

The payments and cash receipts will provide information on the availability or deficit of funds. They will determine the need for capital and the development of a financial strategy for the business. According to my plan, I will take care of the available funds in the first two quarters of the first year in advance. To finance the initial costs and the development of the entire project in the first quarter of the first year, I will borrow $ 40,000 (A commercial loan for two years at 12% interest per year).

The success of a business I determined by how dedicated the owner is to meet the customers’ needs. With my knowledge, the health food portal is a viable market niche that is profitable if executed well. It is a growing market with minimal competition. Using the above-explained strategies and business plan, I will provide solutions to customers who need quality healthy food.

Historical texts are crucial documents that allow students to examine the history of various cultures and societies. Historical texts tend to occur in various forms, including letters, diaries, and speeches. Collectively, letters and speeches are incredible sources for looking into the past as they give historians an inspiring source of gauging and analyzing history. In addition, these sources are primarily primary sources with a candid quality. Therefore, these texts are neither highly conceptualized nor dominated by self-protective language, which yields quality deductions easily. At its core, this essay aims to analyze two sets of documents to identify the fundamental similarities and differences by analyzing their content on the American West in the 19th century. The essay uses historical texts with a personal appeal since an analysis of historical documents with candid quality is more helpful in developing historical arguments and interpretations.

Summarizing the Source Contents

The first document under scrutiny is Document 17-3, which describes Mattie Oblinger’s life on a Nebraska homestead. The documents begin by providing a shortened form of bibliography that explains how Mattie found herself in the prairie homesteads of Nebraska. The document contents are in a letter written by Oblinger to Thomas’ Wheeler family (Oblinger, 1873). As expected, the letters written by Oblinger have a candid quality that does not exist in formal writings. For instance, the letter has no periods at the end of the sentences, making it increasingly difficult to read (Oblinger, 1873). However, having a candid quality does not prevent the writer from incorporating essential content for examining American West history in the 19th century.

To start with, document 17-3 provides helpful content for understanding the social organizations of the American West in the late 19th century. Social history is essential as it assists in developing an understanding of the experiences of ordinary people in history. Oblinger’s letter does precisely that by identifying various social aspects of homesteaders. For instance, as evidenced in documents 17-3, the letter highlights how ordinary families spent their Sundays in church (Oblinger, 1873). The document further touches on the subject of denomination and religion, suggesting that religion was highly regarded as it was even considered part of being civilized (Oblinger, 1873).

Furthermore, the concept of neighbors also forms the bulk of content in the document. By exploring her neighbors, the letter serves the audience with the essential social and economic organization of the people living in homesteads. For instance, the article suggests that homesteaders reared animals suggesting agriculture was the backbone of the economy (Oblinger, 1873). Moreover, Oblinger (1873) is confident that each family had its farm, which they majorly used to grow wheat, corn, and oats. The documents further identify the typical type of housing and accommodations adopted by people living in homesteads, suggesting equality amongst all homesteaders (Oblinger, 1873). Finally, the letters identify the strengths of society. For instance, Oblinger (1873) notes that the society had friendly neighbors and good housing quality in addition to the absence of being enslaved to a particular force.

The second document under investigation in this essay documents 17-5 that describe the Indians feeling regarding the white encroachment to their land. The document entails a speech done by Joseph to a white audience in the year 1879. In the article, Joseph (1879) is primarily concerned with explaining how the White man was significantly different from the Indian man. To accomplish this, Joseph (1879) starts by proclaiming that an Indian is not a wild animal that the white man should domesticate. Joseph further goes ahead to explain how Indians and the white settlers saw things differently.

Joseph explains the significant differences in the rules that governed the Indians. According to Joseph (1879), Indians were governed by strict rules taught by elders through apprenticeship. The Great Spirit governed the rules and was in charge of saving justice by punishing evildoers. According to Joseph (1879), all Indians earnestly believed in the divine role of the Great Spirit that saw and heard everything. On the other hand, the Whites are portrayed by Joseph (1879) as scrupulous persons who manufacture rules treaties that serve their interests. They are depicted as persons with ulterior motives as they give gifts and later claim gifts were actually payment.

Joseph (1879) further reports that although the Indians had no prior knowledge of the existence of white men, the initial contact was peaceful. The Indians demonstrated peace by awarding the first white men to explore the Indian territory, Lewis and Clark, with a great feast (Joseph, 1879). The Indians, later on, welcomed a white missionary, Mr. Spaulding, who won the hearts of many Indians. However, white men soon started flocking into the Indians territory, and before wrong, conflicts ensured as some Indian leaders had seen through the charade put by the white people. After a long period of living in peace and learning from each other, the Whites’ desire to reign over the Indian’s territory became apparent (Joseph, 1879). The whites used the influential missionary to sweet talk the leaders into signing treaties that gave the whites direct control of the land (Joseph, 1879). When some leaders refused to partake in selling out their land, the Whites declared wars that forced Indian’s eviction out of their land.

Comparing the Two Documents

After analyzing the contents of the two documents, one can safely deduce that the documents are fundamentally different. Oblinger’s letter is concerned more with the reporting on the daily social life of homesteaders residing in Nebraska. Document 17-3 accomplishes this by portraying how the community came together through good neighborliness, religion, and trade (Oblinger, 1873). On the other hand, documents 17-5 are primarily concerned with establishing the significant differences between the Indians and the Whites. In this document, Joseph (1879) capitalizes on how the two segments of the population had different ideologies regarding the laws and the spiritual law. In addition, while Oblinger’s letter reports on equality and peace amongst all residents, Joseph’s speech depicts conflicts surrounding the Indians and the White settlers. The contents in these two texts are different.

Further, analyzing the source context affirms the fundamental differences between the texts. For instance, Oblinger and other people enjoyed peace and prosperity as the society deemed everyone an equal (Oblinger, 1873). However, Joseph affirms that the Whites deemed themselves superior in the contesting texts. This is evident in how the White was concerned about taking control of lands using treaties and unscrupulous behavior. For example, when treaties failed, the Whites relied on missionaries to conduct their bid for power before resolving to force (Oblinger, 1873). In addition, the existence of some context words such as treaties and spirit laws in the second document, which are not present in the first, further accounts for the differences in the two texts.

Consequently, the two texts gave two competing ideologies about the American West in the 19th Century. Oblinger’s letter suggests that the American West was a sanctuary dominated by a civilized community that stood for equality and good neighborliness. On the other hand, Joseph’s speech depicts America’s West as a zone of unmetered conflicts and unscrupulous behavior. Joseph is confident that the natives and the settlers were guided by different morals that prevented the society from knitting together and sharing the limited land resources. As such, war was the only solution to settle their contesting differences, especially where bribes in the form of prizes failed.
