In seventh grade, I failed nearly all three of my English classes. I read the books, but never applied the knowledge I learned from them, making it difficult for me to understand and answer the questions on the assignments and tests. Additionally, I was convinced that I’d never be exceptional at English; that it wasn’t my fault, it was the teacher’s or the subject’s. Ensuing, I realized the true cause of my unacceptable grades- me. I acknowledged that a change needed to be made, but I wasn’t sure I was capable of fixing them.
However, once I started putting forth the effort, schoolwork became less of a chore and more of an opportunity to expand my knowledge. Throughout the rest of middle school and high school, this determination and positive mindset allowed me to gain the utmost from my courses. Not only did I excel in math, but my secret love of history revealed itself. Above all, I’ve passed all of my classes since with the grades that I’m proud of. Unfortunately, I had always dismissed the idea of going to college, which is why I allowed my grades to be poor in the first place. Recently, however, I embraced my love of education, and have been working adamantly towards my goal of becoming a teacher.
My goal is to encourage students in a way I wish my teachers had encouraged me. Instead of just memorizing the material, I want my future students to be able to recognize the importance of it and to persist even when the concepts seem impossible to learn. Empathy, kindness, and authenticity are skills I hope to someday display in my classroom. In order for students to excel in school, they need to feel comfortable and capable of learning. It is my dream to change lives the way so many of my teachers changed mine. I’m confident that this is the right journey for me.
I Am Iron Man: Finding My Heroic Qualities To Understand My Future
“Genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist,” is one of Tony Starks most iconic quotes, but not necessarily his most meaningful at first sight. However, I find great comfort in this quote. It shows that Tony Stark is not a stereotypical hero like perhaps Steve Rogers. Rather he is a normal, well maybe not normal since we are not all billionaires, but a regular person who became a hero when he realized the world needed change, and he had the power to change it for the better. Tony’s biggest accomplishment is becoming a better more selfless person and creating a new goal. I am like that. I’m constantly evolving and finding who I am and what I want to do.
When I was young I wasn’t a big fan of change because I saw it as something negative. Change to me meant leaving my family, moving homes, living in a different country or my mom getting diagnosed with a brain tumor. Moving indicated having to make new friends and learn a new language. It signified not spending as much time with my cousins. My mom’s tumor represented having to leave without my mom or dad for a few months. At the moment where everything in your life is changing, it becomes hard to look on the bright side of things.
However, looking back, I realize I would not be who I am now if none of these things had happened to me. And, honestly, I like who I’ve become. Like Tony, I’ve overcome adversity. While I didn’t have to build my way out of imprisonment, I did have to build my way out of the hardships life threw at me. I had to learn how to be with people who thought differently. I had to grow up faster, become more mature and responsible, so my mom could recuperate from her surgery. Overcoming these challenges influenced who I am today, and it made me realize change can be good.
Now, who am I? How have I changed? I used to be a little more selfish and solely focused on how my grades define me. As I’ve grown up, I’ve started to prioritize doing what I love and following my passions rather than working for others. My mom’s surgery demonstrated how it’s important to do what makes you happy because as cheesy as it sounds, life can change in a second. I now prioritize my mental health. I take “hard” classes because I love studying and I am interested in the subject, not necessarily because I’m expected to.
Furthermore, enduring pain and struggles has led me to be more empathetic. I’m constantly trying to do the right thing. I follow my morals, and most of all, I’m loyal. I’m always there for people. I know the importance of having someone be there for you, of knowing you’re not alone, so I try to be that for people. Something that has continually grown and taken part in my life is my passion for societal issues. It’s one of the reasons I joined HRC during high school, and why I want to become a forensic scientist. I desire to improve this world, make it one where there is justice and where everyone can co-exist. Throughout my life, I’ve grown into a caring, loyal, passionate, responsible, and overall better person.
The wonderful thing about life is that it’s always teaching, and we get to keep learning. We get to learn from mistakes, experiences, books, and as humans, we get to evolve. I was someone who feared change, but I’ve gotten to see the beauty of it. I’ve glimpsed how the unexpected can change you for the better, and nowadays, I value change. It is essential. The world needs change– to improve and be interesting. By enduring challenges and growing from them, Tony Stark became a hero, and I continue to become the best version of myself.

At the age of ten, I embarked on my first trip to Europe with my parents. Our destination was Disneyland in Paris, where an overwhelming feeling of excitement enveloped me upon arrival. The sights of magnificent buildings, diverse people, and a foreign language immersed me in wonder. This experience sparked a deep longing within me to venture into unfamiliar cultures. Upon returning home, I realized that becoming a “traveler” was my newfound aspiration.
During my childhood, I actively pursued every opportunity that came my way. As a student, I enthusiastically participated in all cultural programs organized by my school. This led me to travel to various countries in Europe before the age of 18. However, my desire for exploration extended beyond Europe. Hence, after completing high school, I set my sights on Manhattan in New York City, USA. It was a dream come true for an eighteen-year-old girl like me.
One year later, my visit to Dubai had a lasting impact on me as well. The advancements made by the people there in technology, construction, and development were awe-inspiring; however, these achievements contrasted with the limitations imposed by local laws on women’s rights.
As time went by, I realized that my excitement didn’t just come from traveling itself, but also from planning and coordinating the entire trip. I strongly believe that traveling offers a valuable chance to break free from the routine of everyday life and gain perspectives on different ways of living. This is why I chose to combine my love for travel with the business aspects of the travel and tourism field, aiming to expand my knowledge.
After completing my Economics degree at the University of Macedonia, I have gained practical experience in various roles such as cashier, accountant, and personnel manager. These positions have provided me with important leadership and administrative skills necessary for a fiercely competitive industry. Although I am passionate about economics, I felt that there was something missing. Consequently, I opted to pursue tourism management – an area that has long captivated my interest.
