Back in the old days, people would drink raw milk which caused many people died from it. In 1864, Louis Pasteur invented the process of pasteurization. Pasteurization is started by heating the milk for its own good benefits. Milk factory started to grow more and more milks got pasteurized. The main point of pasteurized milk is to destroy microorganisms. Microorganisms are things that cannot be seen, and they are consider as bacteria. If you think about it, every day we all are surround by bacteria. Things that we cannot see will cause us to be in danger. Who doesn’t love their health? I believe we all do and want to choose the best food for our body system.

As a student and a woman, I will entirely choose to purchase pasteurized milk because I have seen people that drink raw milk before. They got sick so bad but people who drink pasteurized milk they still stay normal and did improve their health. If we don’t choose to drink pasteurized milk over raw milk, we all will start to get sick! Things will start to get worse if you choose the wrong path. It has proven legally that pasteurized milk has been sold in all grocery stores in the United States. Many people believe that drinking pasteurized milk will prevent bacteria by boiling them to the right temperature and provide good nutritious.

As is proven by the Food and Drug Administration, “Pasteurizing milk DOES NOT cause lactose intolerance and allergic reactions. Pasteurization DOES NOT reduce milk’s nutritional value” (Consumers). Drinking milk products can be dangerous if you don’t know which one has good benefits for you or not. Pasteurized milk can help you from high-risk germs and save your life to live longer. This point of view may seem to be accurate but pasteurized milk may not provide much nutritious if compared to raw milk. We can see that having raw milk is considered as having an organic drink and it has many nutritional benefits in it. According to Dr. Edward Group DC, NP, DACBN, DCBCN, DABFM agree that “Organic, raw milk is a complete food, loaded with minerals, protein, and vitamins. Raw milk contains an amazing selection of minerals ranging from calcium and phosphorus to trace element” (Dr. Group’s). Because of this fact, the opinion of buying raw milk isn’t that bad if you want real legendary nutritious. Throughout many debates, people have seen that for the safety of public health and medical insurance, the government have proven pasteurization to pass the law to be sold in all stores. This law is for to protect the community health.

According to Bill Marler who is an American lawyer and as a food spokesman clearly stated that “Many states require that milk sold to the public be pasteurized, and federal law prohibits any interstate shipment of milk that has not been pasteurized” (Marler). Also, many scientists do agree with this law because without pasteurized the milk people could have a poor health issue. It is true that pasteurized milk is allowing to be sold in stores but that doesn’t mean raw milk got banned not to sold out in stores. Marler also stated that “However, raw milk proponents argue that raw milk bans infringe on the right of consumers to make their own choice” (Marler).

People do have the right choice to choose which food to buy to benefits their health and few states do allow raw milk to be sold. Above all the facts it has proven that decades, pasteurized milk has provided good nutritious for our body and is safe to drink because they got proven by the government to be sold in every store. To pasteurize the milk, it includes heating to a specific of requirement temperature. Heating the milk is a way to kill microorganisms. Some people may choose to drink raw milk but after all majority for the safety of everyone, the government recommended everyone to drink pasteurized milk. They are good to go and have saved many lives!

How To Stay True To Yourself While Following Your Calling 

It may be possible that you feel trapped right now, so how do you remain true to yourself in moments like this? The most important thing I can tell you is not to give up: positive changes begin with one small step, a step into the life you genuinely seek. ‘’You start by starting’’. I saw this quote somewhere, and it made total sense. But I prefer to think of all the excuses NOT to start, not to take that risk, not to follow that huge, brave dream. Does this sound familiar?

I would like to tell my story, but there are a lot of reasons why not to:

  • What if nobody cares about what I have to say?
  • I am not confident that this is the right choice for me
  • I am concerned that my website is not done

The list continues… and that is just the basic stuff. But if I dig deeper, harder questions come to my mind: Who the hell do I believe I am, saying that I am a life expert that has all the world’s answers? There are a lot of people that are already doing the same thing I do, people who seem more skilled and better at it.

Is it risky or already late to change something? And what if I don’t succeed? Isn’t keeping the status quo much simpler and safer? I was the typical sad, unsatisfied corporate professional two years ago. I was a lawyer for a couple of years before I quit to become a business leader for law firms. I had a great career, according to most standards – I was well paid with plenty of independence and flexibility, responsibilities, and recognition. Yet I felt totally unsatisfied and stuck.

I kept feeling like there has to be more to life, while dreaming of leaving my job to travel around the world. Ignoring my friends and family’s concerns as well my own self-sabotaging talk, I just went for it! It took me several months to plan the journey. The outcome – a one-way ticket to Mumbai. I saved finances for my travels and a few months of post-trip costs, donate all of the things I owned, and headed to an unknown direction. The trip turned out to be like nothing I expected, but rather everything I dreamed of. I felt the everyday thrill of waking up not knowing what surprises were awaiting me.

Unexpectedly, I made some new friends, climbed on stunning mountain tops, stumbled upon spectacular secret beaches, and tried exotic new dishes. I felt the magic that freedom has and it was unbelievable, and I will always be thankful for this journey that changed my life.

By no way am I implying that such radical change is what each one of us needs. Oftentimes, it is actually the simple, consistent steps that show the best results. It is probably not a good idea for you to take off to India to mediate for a month or go on a 5-day vacations near your home. But what are the small changes that you can begin making today to be on the right track for reaching your dreams and goals?

That all-or-nothing mindset can keep you trapped. That is why beginning with 5 minutes of relaxation (or start a journal, exercise, play the piano) a day is much better. Thinking about the end goal might feel complicated, but inevitably you will have no more excuses not to take the initial simple first step. I hoped that after my travel, I had found the right balance by swapping New York for Austin, and the strength, and big Law’s overwhelming negativity for the innovative and trendy environment of a Tech company.

But the reality is that I am not so certain I did. I still feel guilt for not making enough contributions. The thought of working for a large corporation still restrains me. I still want to travel around the world. I still don’t know what my purpose is. Something I can say with confidence is that leaving my corporate job and New York to travel the world began in my mind and then needed action, one simple step at a time. You may feel nervous, unsure and scared. Perhaps you are measuring the risks and benefits of taking a step. Or maybe not, but you are certain that a different result is what you want. Something stays inside of you, until you can no longer avoid it. You intuitively know that the nest’s comfort is not enough anymore.

You need to leap if you are more scared of staying than leaving. That is when you have to stay true to yourself. What is it that keeps holding you back? Your weight? Some addiction? A relationship that is unhealthy? Suffering from depression? Unsureness and anxiety? Handcuffs made of gold? All of these obstacles have realistic solutions, but most importantly, you must be willing to take risks, make a leap towards a brighter future and always remain true to yourself. The trip can be bumpy, and sometimes it’s the wrong jump and you simply fall. Some failures take more time than others to heal from. But on the other hand, avoiding risks by never leaping is also a type of hell on its own.

Sexism In The Workplace Essay

It’s 2020, and that means it’s about time that women feel like equals in the workplace. Yet, they still don’t feel that way, with salary disparities, sexual harassment and insufficient family leave policies still being major issues.

However, if we push the bigger problems aside, workdays are also filled with small and subtle reminders that the work environment wasn’t originally designed with women in mind. From the lack of purse hooks in bathrooms to lockers that are the perfect size to fit men’s blazers, office environments are often still a man’s world.

What Exactly is Sexism

Defining workplace sexism can often be tricky. People tend to jump to harassment and pay discrimination immediately, but what they don’t look at is the grey area in between. To make it easier, let’s split it into two types:

Overt Sexism

Overt sexism is the more serious form. It’s the sexism that makes the headlines, like the scandals in Congress, and the highly publicised gender pay gap in Hollywood. Here, it’s all black and white. It’s easier to distinguish between right and wrong. Unwanted sexual advances or harassment are examples of overt sexism.

Latent Sexism

On the other hand, latent sexism delves deeper into the grey area, and this is where things get more complicated. This type is so ingrained in company culture that it often passes by unnoticed, like “harmless” seixst jokes.

What makes people treat women differently? What’s the underlying reason behind their actions?

To understand this, let’s take a look at two gender biases that are prevalent in office culture:

  • Descriptive bias

This bias ascribes certain qualities to women. Women are supposed to be emotional, caring, sensitive,warm; these are traits consistently used to describe women for decades. Left alone these traits do not have negative connotations, of course, but when a woman performs a job traditionally held by men, these can become extremely harmful.

This is where the male descriptive stereotypes come into play; these include competent, assertive, decisive, rational and objective. When managers have little to no information about what an employee or candidate is actually like, they fill in the knowledge gap with these descriptive stereotypes, mostly to the detriment of women.

  • Prescriptive bias

The second major form of gender bias is prescriptive. In this case, women who do make it to the top and claim a traditionally male position are seen to have violated their prescribed norms. For example, when a woman who is expected to be compassionate acts forcefully, instead of being called “decisive” like her male counterpart, she would be labelled “bossy” or “uncaring.”

In this case the empirical evidence is also overwhelming. Studies have found that women who succeed in male domains are disliked, as they have violated the expectation of incompetence.

Women who express anger are given lower status, as they have violated the expectation of warmth.

Women who promote themselves are less hirable, as they have violated the expectation of modesty.

And women who negotiate for higher pay are penalized, as they have violated the expectation of passivity.

The issue is not whether they are that way or not. The issue is that men and women are probably behaving the same but women are taking a hit, while men are not.

A New York research team sent science faculty at some top universities applications for a lab manager position. The resumes were identical, apart from the name, which was either male or female. Yet the faculty still rated the male candidate as more competent and hirable than the women, even proposing higher starting salaries.

What Can We Do to Prevent This

At a national level, Indian companies have to disclose gender achievements as well as the percentage of women in senior management.

At a company level, enhancing accountability for a decision can eliminate the gaps filled by descriptive and prescriptive biases.

And at an individual level, women have to stand up for themselves.

Never Settle for Double Standards

For instance, if your boss calls all your male coworkers by their last names but calls you by your first, speak up. Ask why. This brings perspective into the situation, forcing the offender to consider their actions publicly.

Find Allies in the Workplace

If there are other women in the office, speak to them about their own experiences. If it’s clear that there’s an underlying issue with company culture, it’s worth bringing up to your human resources department. But an ally plays a bigger role than just listening. The most crucial factor is to build power in numbers. A true ally will join you if you protest.

HR is There to Help

Human Resources are there for a reason. Consult them. If you feel like women aren’t getting adequate representation in the office, suggest organizing a women’s monthly panel to discuss probably changes that can be made. Companies like Nike have instituted these to encourage diversity in the workplace.

It’s unfortunate that women have to be told to fend for themselves. It feels as wrong as blaming a rape victim for provocative clothing, when it’s the aggressor who should be condemned. It’s not women who should be taught what to do, but men who should be taught what not to do.

The sad reality is, until equality is established, we women have to keep fighting, so that the women of tomorrow never have to go through this.
