Abstract

Now many high school students confused a question-what kind of university will they be admitted? What sort of degree should they apply for? and What are the job prospects for it? These questions also bother me. However, I think everyone has a few ideal universities in their heart. Due to their requirements are very strict, so they are afraid to choose them. I was so lucky that I can have a chance to study at CYSS. In there, I have learned lots of knowledge about Canadian cultures. It helps me to be brave to face difficulties, make me have a more extensive perspective and let me have my ideal universities—University of Ottawa, York University and Simon Fraser University.

My Dreaming Universities

Have you ever been lost? My answer is yes. I’ve spent countless nights wondering, what’s my goal? Subsequently, I went to collect information and learn different degrees of each school. Gradually, I became more and more interested in a course called Media. I also recognized some universities that have it.

The first university I want to introduce is the university of Ottawa located in Ontario, Canada. The University of Ottawa is a public research university and is one of the longest-established universities in Canada. As far as I know, Ottawa has developed very well in recent years and is one of the best choices for most international students. The University of Ottawa’s media program covers using mass media to disseminate writing, listening and visual information, including advertising and public relations, methods and techniques for influencing production. At the same time, the major part is journalism and university communication. In terms of employment, the choice is also various. However, the competition will be fierce. Also, the University of Ottawa is very close to Carleton University, which is a great place to better understand the degree of media. Thus, I will try my best to put all my energy into entering this school.

The second one I want to discuss is the York University. It is the third-largest comprehensive university in Canada and also it is Canada’s third-largest interdisciplinary research university, located in the largest city and financial center-Toronto. It has 10 colleges and 24 research centers, nearly 60,000 students and more than 7,000 faculty and staff, and 200,000 alumni all over the world! Of course, its media course is also pretty great, although its conditions are rigorous.

The last one is Simon Fraser University. Simon Fraser University, founded in 1965, is a comprehensive public research university in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. There are eight colleges jointly established by SFU, which delivers more than 100 specialties, covering more than 40 fields of interdisciplinary specialties. Simon Fraser’s subject in media is also one of the best majors, with a wide range of professional media skills and its employment rate is 95 percent even higher. Therefore, Simon Fraser university’s admission requirements are very also tough. Because of it, students are supposed to have excellent learning abilities and confidence.

Conclusion

In conclusion, every school has its special advantages. No matter what kind of universities that I want, I should work hard to achieve my goal and become a better person. Although my foundation of learning is poor, I will never give up. I strongly trust that with my consistently struggle, finally in one day, I can be chosen by my ideal universities. Also, I wish that all my friends one day could get into your dreaming school.

Gratitude Speech Essay

There’s always someone or something in your life that is very important for you and you consider yourself grateful for it. In my case someone I am grateful to have is my mom. As usual my mom and I have a lot of arguments but she’s always been the one supporting me whenever an important event comes up or whenever I have to take a decision for my good. She has showed me a lot throughout the sixteen years of my life. As a mom she’s a very strong, brave women and I really appreciate what she has done for me. The definition for gratitude is the quality of being thankful and return kindness or appreciation in return but in my own words is having someone that has giving you full support, advice and love through their own bad terms as well as for own.

I don’t have a specific recent example because she always does something every single day for me and my sisters. But not everything has been easy for us and even though these problems are personal she never left her self down because she saw I would look up to her and she decided to be strong. She stood up with her head in high and she kept on giving a smile to make my day better. She has giving me the opportunity to find myself in many occasions and never let me down even though she thought sometimes my decisions weren’t the best for that specific moment.

In return of her being always there for me I try to be a good student and a good daughter for her. Everytime I come to school I say to myself “I’m doing this to make my mom proud” to show that she didn’t made a mistake in giving all the advice she has giving me and I’m not going to lie that sometimes is something stressful to accomplish and somehow understand that she doesn’t have it easy with my sisters and me. Having in mind that I’m her first daughter sometimes is scary to think that I’m going to fail her as her daughter and I won’t be able to return that appreciation back to her.

The kindness from her part is the reason why I’m grateful for her, because if it wasn’t for her I wouldn’t be the person I am now. Always cheering me up, always attending to my band concerts, always being proud of me whenever I came back home from school to show her my report card with A’s. This is how I understand the meaning of gratitude all to her.

Making Time For Gratitude

With the holiday season quickly approaching, the pace of life seems to have already increased exponentially! During this time, it is easy to be swept up in the festivities and all of the extras that come along with them—gifts, parties, and special activities, just to name a few. While it is undeniable that there is something magical about this time of year, it’s also more important than ever to help your child take the time to pause and reflect with gratitude. Cultivating a practice of gratitude with your child doesn’t require a huge investment of time, and the scientifically-proven benefits—which range from higher empathy and increased resilience to improved self-esteem and even better sleep—are far reaching.

Start small! Make sharing gratitude a part of your daily routine—meal time or bedtime is a great place to begin. Ask your child to share one thing s/he is thankful for and share a gratitude of your own as well. Remember that you are your child’s best teacher, and the more you model expressing gratitude, the more it will become a habit. As your child becomes more comfortable doing so, try some of the practices below:

Start a family gratitude journal. At the dinner table, have each family member share something big or small that they’re thankful for and record it in a notebook.

Teach your child to write a proper thank you note—one that expresses gratitude, explains why the writer is thankful, and gives a hint about how the writer will make use of the gift or pay the kindness forward.

Volunteer your time as a family; sign up to work a shift at a food bank, soup kitchen, or other non-profit that is personally meaningful to you.

Encourage your child to acknowledge and appreciate others for things they have done—big and small. Help them use language that both expresses gratitude and explains how it made them feel, for example, “Thank you for reading a bedtime story with me. It makes me feel calm and happy before I go to sleep.”

Go for a gratitude walk. Help your child notice things around them, such as birds singing or beautiful autumn leaves, and express appreciation for them.

Look on the bright side—teach your child how to reframe their thinking from “have to” to “get to”. If your child is disappointed that s/he has to accompany you on a trip to the grocery store, model gratitude-centered thinking such as, “We get to go choose some delicious food for your school lunches this week!”

Make a gratitude collage together. Cut out or draw pictures of things, people, and experiences you appreciate, and display your finished product prominently as a reminder of all the things for which your family is grateful.

Ask why. As your child gets better at expressing gratitude, dig deeper and ask why s/he is grateful for something or how it improves his or her life.

Research shows that expressing gratitude is a practice that feeds itself; the more you intentionally acknowledge the things for which you are grateful, the more things for which you are grateful you notice in your life. Helping your child to begin building this habit early on is a great gift to give them during this holiday season!
