Reality Rap Group: NWA Free Writing Sample


The music of the reality rap group NWA served as a vehicle for social protest in the United States during the 1980s and 1990s. It was mostly through social commentary on police violence and racism, as well as exerting power over Black American women through sexist lyrics and music, that they were able to sustain the masculinity they assumed in order to survive. It is well known that NWA used their music to gain power in a society where they would otherwise be powerless. Through their lyrics, they promoted their culture while also drawing attention to police violence against black men. NWA paved the way for their rise to prominence, notoriety, and prosperity. Music, in all genres, serves as a prism through which to examine culture and gender interactions. It is, however, extremely poignant in the context of a study of reality rap. Reality rap, also known as gangsta rap, is a subgenre of hip-hop that arose from a movement against oppression and racial injustice. NWA was one of the most influential hip hop groups in Los Angeles during the 1980s and early 1990s, occupying both the positive and negative sides of the reality rap genre. Two aspects of reality rap to consider are social activism and the propagation of inequality. In and of itself, it is frequently sardonic, hypocritical, and contradictory. These contradictions, however, stem from the same source: a revolt against institutionalized tyranny. Although it would be easier to say that the NWA gained power by oppressing black women, it is not as simple to say that the NWA were simply being sexist. It’s possible that the NWA believed they had no other option for protesting their oppression. Misogyny was used as a form of protest in this case.


The song “Fuck Tha Police” served as the soundtrack to the Los Angeles riots of 1992. The riots were preceded by the most infamous police brutality case in American history. On March 3, 1991, four white LAPD officers brutally assaulted Rodney King, a black Los Angeles resident. A bystander videotaped the incident, which was broadcast on national television. The incident was shown twenty-seven times on three different network shows between March 5 and the end of March. 47. As a result, all four officers were exonerated. Los Angeles residents of color retaliated violently. The NWA was able to speak out about their experiences and resist the efforts of the dominant white society to eliminate them by using the medium of music. Reality rap provided an outlet for many oppressed people. The NWA made up a story about aggressively retaliating against the police, who used force against African-Americans for no apparent reason. Instead of becoming their targets, the NWA could take a symbolic stand behind the camera and rifle scope. Through NWA music, traditional roles between police officers and black men were flipped. They were able to take control of their lives in ways they had never been able to before thanks to music.

Twilight Bey, a former member of the Los Angeles Cirkle City Piru gang, photographed the spirit of revolt, resistance, and protest among Black American male teenagers in South Central Los Angeles in the 1970s and 1990s. There have been numerous examples of oppressed groups taking action against their oppressors all over the world. Reality rap, which became a vehicle for resistance for the NWA, was used by black American rappers and listeners to oppose and subvert dominant white culture. The NWA has had a significant impact on Los Angeles culture. Its songs reflected the mood of dissatisfaction and dissent in South Central Los Angeles, and their material was notorious for being controversial, aggressive, and misogynistic. Straight Outta Compton, a biopic about the group’s rise and fall, has sparked NWA’s revival. “Fuck Tha Police,” NWA’s most popular song, takes on new meaning in the context of BlackLivesMatter and the ongoing police violence against Black American men. Their music contains an intriguing paradox: they are fighting for equality for black males, but their lyrics perpetuate controlling images and stereotypes of Black women.

Reality rap is a form of protest not only in its lyrics but in its sound. Despite its roots in hip-hop, reality rap’s fundamental aesthetics defy those of other types of music. These include popular, classical and even hip-hop, which is where the genre got its start. When reality rap first emerged in the late 1980s and early 1990s, it had a distinctive sound that set it apart from other forms of popular music. It was violent, male, and ominous. Adam Krims, a musicologist and music theorist, calls this particular rap aesthetic quality with the uncommon potential to boost masculinity through numerous sonic tactics. Academic studies of rap music tend to focus on the genre’s social, cultural, and political contexts. Despite the importance of all of these subjects, rap music has not been thoroughly investigated. Adam Krims shattered this pattern in the early 2000s. Kris Krims was one of the first musicologists to construct a framework for understanding rap music’s aesthetics through a musicological lens. 144. Until Krims’ study, there was no musicological language produced to examine the musical qualities of rap in academic contexts.

To summarize, culture has a significant impact. Pop culture can shape and even change a person’s perceptions and behavior, and this is true for people of all ages and levels of pop culture consumption. The NWA’s message of white nationalist resistance lives on in the form of their music to this day. Real-life issues may be addressed through the “Reality Rap” genre, in which NWA played a significant role. The phrase “Fuck Tha Policemessage” is still relevant in 2016. There are still many challenges in the United States’ black communities. Black Lives Matter was founded in 2014 in response to white police officers’ killings of unarmed black people in the United States. The militarization of the American police force has been exposed by Occupy Wall Street and other social uprisings. The NWA song “Fuck Tha Police” was the first to use art to protest tyranny. The National Rifle Association (NRA) is not the only voice in the United States that opposes the Second Amendment. Racism in the United States is a problem that rap, hip-hop, and pop artists of color have addressed and continue to address through their platforms.

Executive summary

In this paper, we consider the analysis of two companies: Netflix and Blockbuster. It was a complicated issue, but that’s to be expected. Netflix’s rapid expansion can be attributed to poor decisions, technology advancements, and other causes. In contrast to Blockbuster’s spectacular demise (Netflix’s yearly net income was $161 million when Blockbuster filed for bankruptcy in 2010). This piece aims to provide marketers with a few takeaways from what I’ve learned about these two companies, similar to this one on Zoom’s narrative of success.


You may be surprised to learn, but there is no particular reason why Netflix overcame Blockbuster and became a household name. Netflix is one of the world’s most innovative and forward-thinking corporations, developing new business concepts and solutions via constant research and development. Blockbuster was a successful company from its beginning to its demise due to a lack of innovation and keeping up with new business methods and the shifting environment of technology.

Researching and analyzing the company’s organizational structure and culture


Organizational culture is a critical factor regarding how well individuals are integrated into an organization. Understanding the relevance of organizational behavior (OB) gives the organization a sense of direction and purpose. It’s a topic that’s pertinent to today’s economy. Promoting employees and cultivating business partnerships are critical components of any company’s success. “Promote independent decision-making by employees” and “present information honestly, broadly, and thoughtfully” are only two of Netflix’s five core values, but they’re not the only ones. It’s also possible for companies to illustrate how their principles, behaviors, and results are connected (MURA, 2019. Netflix encourages its employees to be open and honest with one another since it believes this helps us improve our technological abilities. The company’s philosophy of occasionally defying the laws is critical to its ability to remain adaptable in rapidly changing market conditions. Since its inception, Netflix has experienced explosive growth thanks to its adherence to these seven cultural tenets. Netflix does not make general announcements about their “integrity” or “respect,” as Hastings claims; instead, they demonstrate principles through the reward and promotion or even the dismissal of staff.


The Blockbuster culture, on the other hand, was quite conservative. In addition, male employees were not allowed to grow their hair long, and they were not allowed to speak to the media without permission from their employer. Organizational transformation necessitates input from internal stakeholders, such as management and employees when making a strategic decision to reposition the firm. For this study, I have come across stories in which Blockbuster’s senior executives were replaced multiple times in a short period, which indicates that the company lacked a clear business structure and plan.

The communication methods used by businesses


Netflix employs a combination of communication modes that work well within the company. Individuals at Netflix were encouraged to make their own decisions, share knowledge honestly and consciously, be truthful with one another, retain high-performing employees, and people’s participation was highly valued at all times and in all places. In some vast corporations, top-level management may have difficulty communicating internally. When it comes to internal control, Netflix has kept things simple, despite its well-deserved reputation for creativity. When it comes to bringing issues to management’s attention, Netflix has implemented an open-door approach.


Employees at Blockbuster were known to have been trained to welcome clients and lead customers to printed recommendations rather than their video recommendations. As with many other businesses, Blockbuster also ran into difficulties due to a lack of clear communication channels within the company (Widia et al., 2021). Inability to build flexible relationships with staff and execute effective channels of communication. Inconsistent communication from the leadership to the team resulted in people believing that their ideas and contributions were less critical than others. Overall, there was a lack of established communication channels or processes.

The management and leadership style


Founder and CEO of Netflix Reed Hastings, who once observed that if you want to build a large boat, you shouldn’t gather people together to gather wood, divide the duties, and give orders. Instead, the goal should be to inspire a desire for the vast and infinite ocean. The values of Netflix’s leadership and the entire organization are well-known (Akingbola et al., 2019). They will stop at nothing to keep their work free of inconsistencies. A role model is required for every member of Netflix’s senior leadership team. Netflix’s idealistic process is never-ending.


Poor management and an unwillingness to adapt to change are often to blame for the failure of businesses. When Blockbuster began selling movies and video games in its brick-and-mortar stores, they lost track of the industry they were competing in. Others believe that Blockbuster’s leadership team was to blame, which is why the company’s leadership was replaced. Businesses need to remain innovative and up to date at all times. Creating an environment that fosters innovation and creativity is a top priority for any CEO. To be successful in today’s world, CEOs must make their organizations adaptable to various external factors. To preserve a competitive advantage and increase innovation, employees should share their knowledge and assist.

Effects of organizational culture, structure, and management style on an organization


As a result of Netflix’s seven cultural elements, the company has grown tremendously since its inception. There are several things that we hold dear. By rewarding, promoting, or even letting someone go, they show their worthiness to the organization. On the other hand, ‘High performance’ refers to an organization’s desire to employ individuals capable of learning from and teaching others. They need also be self-motivated, alert, disciplined, and act as leaders to meet the “freedom and responsibility” requirement. Another responds, “Context, not control.” Instead of imposing their will on their employees, management aims to get the best results possible by establishing the proper framework. Netflix’s organizational style can also be described as “strongly affiliated but freely connected,” which refers to the company’s well-defined goals and strategies. It’s also important to note that they “pay top of the market,” which means they choose to pay one great employee over two adequate ones. The seventh and final pillar of Netflix culture is “promotion and development.” There is no room for error when staying on top and avoiding relegation.


Employees at Blockbuster’s local units were not allowed to make their judgments because corporate management controlled everything from the top down. As a result, employees and store managers had little influence on the long-term success of the company or its connections with its customers and prospects. When it comes to a company’s strategy, the management team relies on employees to make it happen. To be successful in their endeavors, employees must be included in the company’s problem-solving process. Blockbuster had a difficult time competing in this market.

The overall HR strategy


For the most part, a company’s overall success is used to gauge the effectiveness of an HR strategy. Recruiting from the world’s best universities is done with great incentive packages and a flat organizational culture that encourages people to improve and grow at Netflix (Zetlin, 2019). The company also distributes money for research and development, and services. In contrast to most companies, they do not have the compliance departments and procedures to enforce their policies. In the words of their vacation policy: “Go on vacation.” There are no set guidelines for how long to take a break or when to take it. According to the website: “You would think that such freedom would lead to a state of utter chaos. Nobody has ever come to work naked, but we don’t have a clothing code. It turns out that policies aren’t required for every action, as we’ve discovered. When it comes to hiring and selecting new employees, Netflix believes that the best way to ensure a productive workplace is to pick only those candidates whose goals are in line with those of the corporation.


Blockbuster does not have a sound HR strategy, which results in a more specialized hiring process and more minor employee advancement prospects.

Strategic plan for performance and management

First, Netflix was one of the first firms to entirely do away with the traditional performance evaluation process. As a result of Netflix’s remarkable success, many people pay close attention to how they manage their employees. Netflix’s overarching strategy appears to be demanding performance but allows individuals and teams to make their own decisions about how to get there (Suárez et al., 2019). Netflix’s policy for travel, entertainment, gifts, and other expenses is just five words long: “Do what’s best for Netflix.” On the other hand, Blockbuster lacked a solid strategy for managing performance and talent. This is a significant factor in its demise.


They could have restructured their organization to allow all of their employees to grow equally in the face of change and technology. When it came time to make promotions, they should have done so based on employee qualifications and the availability of fundamental necessities. Developing new products and services would have been easier if Blockbuster’s R&D department had been provided adequate funding and other support resources. Blockbuster’s pay performance and talent management plan should have considered employee complaints. Netflix needs to increase its research and development team to produce new products and services. Despite Netflix’s reputation as a top employer and recruiter, the company is always looking for new ways to attract the most outstanding employees.


The previous studies show that a company’s performance is significantly influenced by its management and overall culture and strategy. It is also vital for the leadership to have systems that can be implemented to help reach the goals and objectives that they have set for themselves. When new technology upsets the market, or your competitor introduces new business practices, it is even more critical to innovate to maintain a competitive advantage constantly. Businesses can fail even if their CEOs and senior management are not creative.

Observe A 1 Or 2-Year-Old Child Essay Example

Observing a 1 or 2-year-old child begins with being there and thoughtful as you follow how the child explores their environment and interact with others. By observing young children and interacting with the people around them, you can get to know about children’s requirements, strengths, understanding, attentiveness, and expertise qualities and discover many other things. Observation of young kinds is vital for learning experience and interactions. However, observing 1 to 2-year-old children gives you the chance to learn what small children are concentrating on, their purpose, what plans they have put in place to learn, and how they interact with their caregivers and people around.

I chose the participants, including the child, the mother, and the caregiver. The mother and the caregiver agreed to let me observe the child for thirty minutes and agree to participate in it. We mutually decided on the setting where the observation could occur, and the environment we agreed on was the child’s home, which was the best setting. The mother and caregiver played an essential role in observing the attachment. They helped me learn about the child’s attachment to them and especially to the caregiver because they have been in their lives every day; it was not hard. Therefore, the setting and participants I chose helped in observing the attachment.

Though the observation activity was a success, at first, it was difficult for the child’s caregiver and the parent to allow me to observe the child. Still, they let me last, and the observation activity went well. The signs of attachment I observed in the child’s behavior were reaching out to the caregiver to be picked, smiling at the caregiver, making eye contact, and crying if the caregiver left. According to Ainsworth (2011), attachment is conduct through which a discerning, different, affection relationship is created with someone and tends to evoke a response from the other person. Thus, it initiates a chain of interactions that consolidates the affectionate relationship. Eye contact, smiling, and crying to be picked were some of the signs of attachment I observed from the child’s behavior which showed that she had a close attachment relationship with the caregiver.

Some of the signs of attachment I observed in the caregiver’s behaviors were attentive to the child, attuned to the child’s needs, staying close to the child despite giving the child freedom to do what she wanted, her eye contact with the child as well as reliable to the child’s actions. So, for example, immediately the caregiver moved from the setting to pick up some things for the child; the child started crying. And that reflected how close the child was to the caregiver; their attachment was so close she all the time wanted to see the caregiver around.

According to my observation, the child showed a secure attachment to the caregiver. Observing some of the child’s behavior like smiling at the caregiver, wanting to be picked, crying if she left, and making eye contact was enough evidence that the child was securely attached. That behavior showed that the child trusted the caregiver so much that she wanted her to be around her. The child’s attachment to the caregiver is solid and secure.

My advice to parents of an insecurely attached child is to ensure that you’re dependable to your child because the child needs to see you as a secure place. Also, be interactive and attentive with them. Be more understanding; what I mean is having your child spending time with a caregiver does not affect your attachment for as long as you’re understanding of your child. And finally at least be more predictable kids require a timeline to feel secure. To expectant parents hoping to foster secure attachment, they should ensure that they are dependable, attentive, predictable, and understanding to the child. Therefore it’s a pride of every parent to be well attached to their young children and to achieve that, the parent should create time to bond well with them.
