Reflective practice is one of the essential techniques for personal growth. It refers to self-examination and introspection into one’s actions, and decisions after the event have occurred in order to gain a deeper understanding of the potential for future improvements. This method of professional development is especially crucial for our company, as Walmart’s organizational structure relies heavily on employees’ ability to understand customers’ emotions and intentions. Our company does not actively promote this practice among employees at all levels, which can be perceived as a significant disadvantage, therefore, it requires a talent development program.
Professional and personal development is inseparable from the growth of an organization. Personal achievements have a positive impact on the employee’s performance, thus bringing the organization additional benefit. Professional development means an employee will be able to perform their job more efficiently, increasing the value they add to the company. There are several core techniques that help people to develop their skills and expand their knowledge. A higher capacity for self-assessment makes the person more suitable for autonomy and decision making, as it gives a better understanding of circumstances and relationships (Fergusson et al., 2019, p. 294). This briefing paper aims to highlight the impact of reflective practice on the performance of both the individual and the organization.
The Importance of Reflective Practice
The growth of an organization primarily depends on the actions of its employees and leaders. In order to make the right decision in any situation, whether business-related or not, it is essential to possess the knowledge that will allow a person to take all present factors into consideration. At this point, the experience is defined as a collection of information about past events and their results. Reflective practice is a method of looking back at these events and breaking them down to the smallest details in order to gain a better understanding and, therefore, experience. What is also important, the change of habits that comes with the adoption of reflective practice gives a person a chance to improve other aspects of his or her life.
Being aware of one’s actions and their consequences brings a great deal of information regarding what could have been done better. This retrospection allows the person to become a strong leader, as the accumulated experience gives him or her the more significant potential to guide, motivate, and inspire others. Fergusson et al. (2019, p. 292) state that regular reflective practice allows employees “to enhance learning, practical insight, and knowledge about operating successfully when working.” Moreover, a person with high self-awareness appears more trustworthy and responsive.
There are many approaches to reflective practice that are suitable for different types of situations, personalities, or goals. These models describe different kinds of events and beliefs that are being analyzed, which can be professional or personal (Hewson & Carroll, 2016). Moreover, they rely on different perspectives that are taken into consideration when a person reflects on his or her experiences (Hewson & Carroll, 2016). The most popular methods are Three Levels of Reflection by van Manen, Four Processes by Schon, and Four Lenses for Critical Reflection by Brookfield (Hewson & Carroll, 2016). They are created to help people to focus on the past to extract benefit from it in the future.
I would like to use Starbucks as an example of a company that heavily relies on reflective practices for growth. The coffeehouse chain is renowned for the hospitality and friendliness of its employees, which is largely attributed to the hiring and training procedures (Kang & Namkung, 2017). The growth of the company relies on reflective practice as a tool for exploring and adapting to the new trends in society. Moreover, its employees are highly social and exhibit superior emotional intelligence.
Emotional intelligence provides a significant amount of data for reflection, as emotions tend to affect one’s actions to a non-negligible extent. Chowdhury (2020) describes emotional intelligence as the “ability to perceive, manage, and express emotions effectively in real life.” As seen from this description, this ability expands beyond one’s emotions and their analysis. A person with high emotional intelligence also possesses great empathy, knows when to listen to other people, takes a more active role in conversations, and knows how to convey their thoughts efficiently. It is expected for a person who regularly employs reflective practice to have higher emotional intelligence due to the changes in behavior and strengthening self-control.
To conclude this briefing paper, I would like to signify the importance of encouraging employees to take time and self-reflect on their actions and decisions at the workplace. Walmart did not implement an efficient managerial strategy that will positively impact the experience of both its employees and customers. By implementing this technique in professional life, our employees and leaders can optimize their behavior, relations with customers and increase the efficiency of managerial activities. As one of the largest companies in the world, Walmart has a social obligation to its workers and customers to improve their lives and promote development.

Social Problems Related To Alcohol And Drugs
Alcohol and drug use is a significant issue in the contemporary world that influences not just the individual but also their family and the wider community. Hence, various scholars have concentrated on the social consequences of alcohol and drug use in their articles or considered them, along with other harmful effects. The present paper will explain the content of three articles relating to the issue while also providing a personal reflection on the readings.
Scholars and the public alike are well aware of the dangerous side effects of alcohol and drug use, which can impair health and lead to death. Articles by Sudhinaraset, Wigglesworth, and Takeuchi (2016), Varlinskaya and Spear (2015), and Yurasek, Aston, and Metrik (2017) were chosen for review because they explain the consequences of alcohol and drug use beyond health problems. Sudhinaraset et al. (2016) note that the harms of alcohol and drug use extend further than a single organism by impacting the addict’s family, friends, and other people in the community. For example, communities with higher alcohol and drug addiction rates typically have increased levels of crime, including violent crime (Sudhinaraset et al., 2016). People who consume alcohol with drugs on a regular basis are also more likely to engage in domestic violence, which harms their significant others, children, parents, and any other relatives living in the same house. For adolescents and children exposed to alcohol and drugs at a young age, the effects can be even worse.
For instance, they can develop mental health problems that will impair their future life in the community or drop out of school and college, leading to underachievement in later life (Varlinskaya & Spear, 2015; Yurasek et al., 2017). When alcohol and drugs are used together, people’s behavior and decision-making also suffer, which leads them to drive under the influence, thus endangering other people’s lives and health (Yurasek et al., 2017). Lastly, due to its influence on mental health, alcohol and drug use contributes to healthcare spending in the United States, necessitating more state funding and drawing financing away from other critical aspects of healthcare and research (Yurasek et al., 2017). On the whole, the consequences of alcohol and drug use for society are very significant.
The articles selected for the assignment were instrumental for me in understanding the real impact that alcohol and drug use on contemporary society. All of the authors derived their conclusions from past research findings, which contributes to the reliability of the information. From the readings, it is clear that the issue does not only concern the person who drinks alcohol or uses drugs but also those around them and even society at large through increased crime, violence, and healthcare expenditures. The information contained in the articles showed me the true extent of the issue of alcohol and drug addiction and motivated me to learn more about the treatments and community-wide solutions that could help to address it.
Overall, alcohol and drug use is a critical problem affecting the United States and many other countries in the world. The widespread use of alcohol and drugs endangers families and communities while also harming individuals’ health and contributing to the healthcare burden. Acquiring more knowledge about the problem from scholarly sources has helped me to expand my understanding of it and motivated me to learn more about potential solutions and actions that need to be taken.

Skeletal And Immune Systems Overview
The most interesting information related to the research is the relationship between the skeletal and immune systems. There is bone marrow inside the interior walls of the bones, which is essential for proper immune system development. In addition, there are stem cells inside this region, which are crucial for immune system maintenance. The process of cellular blood components formation is called hematopoiesis, and it takes place in the internal part of the bone. In particular, there is a production of hematopoietic stem cells, which are precursors of all types of blood cells. One of the cellular components is white blood cells, which help the organism fight against pathogens. For example, phagocytes can ingest harmful particles and digest them, while lymphocytes T and B cells produce antibodies. All of the processes mentioned are possible due to the correct maintenance of the skeletal system.
In turn, the immune system protects the skeleton and muscles from internal hazards, which may cause severe disorders. People with autoimmune diseases such as systemic lupus erythematosus and rheumatoid arthritis may develop secondary osteoporosis, a deterioration of bones, which become porous, brittle, and more susceptible to fracture. For example, people with systemic lupus erythematosus have higher risks of developing osteoporosis because of the prescribed glucocorticoid medications promoting bone loss. Another reason is that systemic lupus erythematosus is accompanied by pain and fatigue, making the person inactive and weak, which will increase the risk of osteoporosis. Thus, there is a strong connection between the skeletal and immune systems, as the first one allows for the production of precursors of white blood cells, while the second protects the skeleton from various diseases.
