Shelley’s “Mutability” Free Sample

The text emphasizes the inevitability of change in human society. It highlights that change is a constant element of mankind that will always persist. It also discusses the idea that individuals do not react or think in the same manner when faced with a repeated situation. The poem “Mutability” by Percy Bysshe Shelley serves as evidence of this concept, as it portrays the continuous change experienced by people due to their daily life circumstances. Even when confronted with familiar, ordinary situations, humans will invariably respond and think differently each time.

Shelley speaks with intent, stating, “We rest. —A dream has the ability to taint sleep.” Every evening, human beings engage in the act of sleeping. However, if an unsettling recurring dream occurs, it has the capacity to transform sleep into a terrifying ordeal each and every night, ultimately impacting an individual by instilling a fear of resting. Upon awakening, we begin to consciously contemplate our thoughts. Throughout the day, individuals may remain cheerful as they ponder upon the beauty of life. Alternatively, they may also ponder about the bacteria that could be lurking on the door they just opened, the pollutants they unknowingly inhale, and the potential natural disasters that could abruptly end their existence.

These concepts instill a fear of living and taking risks, leading to personal transformation. Shelley figuratively states, “We rise. —One wandering thought pollutes the day.” This illustrates that individuals do not respond similarly when confronted with the same circumstances. Change is the sole constant in this world. Ultimately, death is inevitable, rendering our lives, bodies, and material possessions transient. People relocate, encounter new individuals, and form new friendships, causing friendships to be impermanent. Humans consistently shift their perspectives, therefore thoughts, emotions, and feelings lack permanence.

The enduring quality of a person lies solely in their capacity for change. In a stanza, Shelley draws a parallel between men and lyres, musical instruments akin to harps. He asserts, “Or like forgotten lyres, whose dissonant strings give various response to each varying blast, to whose frail frame no second motion brings one mood or modulation like the last.” Shelley portrays mankind as feeble and delicate, illustrating how the “lyres” will never produce the same response with each subsequent strum. In essence, what remains of the weak individual is their ability to adapt and alter their reactions.

In Shelley’s poem “Mutability,” he conveys the message that nothing but change is permanent. The line “Naught may endure but mutability” emphasizes this idea. Shelley suggests that individuals are fragile and will inevitably undergo transformations in response to life’s challenges. Essentially, change is the sole constant in an ever-changing world.

Movie Review Of “Flash Of Genius”

The movie Flash of Genius which is based on a true story depicts a battle of an innovator against a big company for patent infringement. Bob Kearns who invented the intermittent windscreen wiper did not hesitate to file a case against one of the biggest automotive companies, Ford corporation. Kearns’ situation is a classic example of a David and Goliath story. No matter how small you are in the eyes of dominant people, you can still achieve triumph as long as you are determined and certain for what you’re fighting for. What Mr. Kearns went through speaks of the many other innovators who were also put down by other big industries.

For innovators like him, money would be worthless if their exclusive rights for a certain invention are stolen from them. It’s just normal for Mr. Kearns to react that way because his distinction as an innovator was taken for granted. Despite the huge amount of bribe offered two Mr. Kearns, he still sticked to his conviction which really inspired me. He also proved that nothing would be impossible for a man that practices his profession ethically. Engineers are expected to create something innovative that would benefit mankind.

As a future engineer, I was motivated to contribute a significant impact on the society out of my own terms in the future. In my opinion, innovators should set aside personal interests to come up with an efficient design. As portrayed in the story, Mr. Kearns intention is to raise a lot of money out of his invention which is just normal for a man who is raising quite many kids. Setting his personal interests aside, indeed, his invention contributed a lot in the society in terms of the convenience and safety of a vehicle bearer. One important lesson gained from Ford Company is not to mimic what they had done.

This can really affect one’s reputation and credibility as innovators. As long as there is a fair trial, nothing can escape from the law. It is also important to know the laws concerning Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) for it is possible that other people or firm might use your idea without your permission. By being aware of such law, you can defend yourself in such instances. In the case of Mr. Kearns, he tried his best to defend himself in the court. Even if he is not a lawyer by profession, he was able to attain victory in the trial. In situations like that, one should not confine one’s self in his/her field of expertise.

It also pays off to learn other discipline to uplift one’s knowledge and became competitive. Lastly, Flash of Genius gave hope to every innovator who was stuck in the same situation. As a future part of the functional class of the society, I also realized that giving trust would be a very delicate issue. No one should fear of granting trust to somebody. It’s for you to decide whom to collaborate with. The best thing to do is to know how to handle those situations. Most importantly, be familiar with the law because we would never go wrong if we abide the law.

Information Technology: The Decision-Making Process

            The decision-making process is crucial for every organization that is determined to implement changes in goals, objectives, policies, or to incorporate new techniques, approaches, or strategies within the work place, as the results or the outcomes will either make or break their success. For instance, the decision of whether to implement information technology systems is crucial to the success and the position of the organization within the corporate arena as the failure of the project will lead to the organization’s downfall. This is because information technology systems are costly using up majority of the resources of the organization, and time and effort is placed for training human capital in handling technological tools and gadgets. In simple terms, if the implementation of the IT project fails to acquire the goals and the objectives of the plan, the organization’s resources, time, and effort, all go to waste and let down the obtainment of return of investment but rather the opposite.             With the potential risks and threats presented by IT system failure, organizations should realize the importance of predict, forecast, or accurately determine the possible results or outcomes of IT plans or decisions that it is willing to make. Moving one step ahead of the IT planning and implementation process will ensure that organizations are able to prepare the working environment to face challenges, problems, or obstacles along the way, otherwise known as scope creep. (Gurlen) This process requires careful and thorough planning, accurate and realistic risk assessment processes, well-determined options and availability of resources, and effective training and knowledge management among the organization’s human capital. (Frese & Sauter) The remainder of this text will discuss possible options for organization to acquire and implement in order to evaluate and assess the desirability of IT planning decisions. In addition, recommendations regarding the IT planning and implementation process will be discussed in order to improve or develop organizational processes and operations in the integration of IT within the working environment.

            The dimensions of the Information Technology Enterprise Architecture back-up the purpose of determining the desirability of IT plans and decisions. The outcomes of the enterprise architecture leads to recommendations for the organization to pursue in order to implement IT systems and tools or gadgets that will efficiently meet the needs, goals, and objectives of the organization. The Information Technology Enterprise Architecture follows a series of stages or phases that will eventually lead to the final decision-making process. First, the organization undergoes Project Identification and Selection. After this, the different projects or plans for IT system implementation will be subjected to the actual Enterprise Architecture wherein it will determine which projects or plans to pursue, as well as the requirements and resources needed to implement them.             Aside from focusing on the dimensions and structure of the planning process as a means to foresee the possibilities of failure, the inclusion of organizational members and also the structuring of other aspects or processes within the organization helps in minimizing potential risks and threats prior to, during, and after the implementation process of IT systems. For the human capital or organizational members, the organization should be able to provide them with in depth and suitable knowledge and information to handle IT systems, directing their specific roles and responsibilities within the IT frame. The monitoring, supervision, evaluation processes are also crucial in determining the success or failure of IT systems. (Frese & Sauter) For the monitoring, supervision, and evaluation processes, members of the organization are actively involved to take on the responsibility of Enterprise Architects. Business leaders, specialty architects, and enterprise architects fulfill the responsibilities of planning, decision-making, implementing, monitoring, supervising, evaluating or assessing, and implementing changes in order to prevent IT system failure.             Other organizational processes and operations that influence IT planning and decision-making are the efficiency and quality of communicative processes within the organization. Inefficient communication within the organization that leads to failure is similar to the concept of the “Tower of Babel.” Ineffective communication leads to misunderstanding and the break down of relationships that will consequently result to the failure. (Frese & Sauter) This means that in order to harbor the benefits and advantages of IT plans and decision-making processes, the members of the organization should be able to communicate effectively throughout the process by efficiently sharing or interpreting information.

            In addition, the desirability of IT systems reaches out to its effects or outcomes in terms of satisfying end users or clients, for that matter. One of the ultimate goals and objectives of the organization is to provide quality services for its clients in order to obtain a wide and loyal client population. In this case, the relationship between IT planning and decision-making and costumer satisfaction lie in the need to consider the needs and demands of the organization’s clients. This may be conducted through surveys, questionnaires, or interviews to obtain vital information on how the IT system should be structured to satisfy the consumers.

            Overall, determining the positive or negative results or outcomes of IT plans and decisions requires the implementation of various organizational processes that will eventually result to the design or structuring of the most efficient and feasible IT plan or system that will suit the needs and demands of the organization and the end users, as well as the realization of organizational goals and objectives. These requirements constitute the application of IT Enterprise Architecture, the involvement of organizational members or architects in the process of planning, decision-making, implementing, supervising or monitoring, evaluating or assessing, and incorporating changes to the system, the proper training of the human capital, the improvement of communication processes, and the consideration of customer needs and demands. By going through these processes and operations, the organization is assured of the implementation of effective and successful IT systems or plans within the working environment.
